There is nothing last about this band, their talent or their music. Last Stand for Lucy formed in the winter of 2007 by Michael O’Neil (Vocals, Guitar) and Derek Nicholas (Lead Guitar, Bass) as a result of their pervious musical calibration. Michael and Derek, who grew up together in Buffalo New York, are the artistic force behind the Last Stand for Lucy project.
The cadence for Last Stand for Lucy is the happy marriage of Britt pop and mid 90’s New York hard core; some influences include the cure, joy division, helmet, and quicksand, which is evident in the first two releases from the band in Burn Everything and Scarlet Red. The lyrics by O''Neil were written for the project while he was serving his second tour in Iraq for the United States Army as an Infantry Solider.
Although faced with this setback of a second tour in Iraq and the uncertainties of the singers return, Nicholas proceeded with the project and through mutual friends hooked up with drummer Glenn Derle. Glenn brought not only experience to the band, but has proved to be the grit behind Last Stand for Lucy’s rhythm section that O’Neil and Nicholas were looking for.
For Nicholas and O’Neil the writing process was anything but normal; sending files to and from an apartment in New York City and the barracks in Iraq. The material produced by O’Neil and Nicholas captures their true musical chemistry as they feel that this is the best work they''ve collaborated on to date.
