For the last 20 years, Bashir Shakur has been a prominent rhythm collector based in the United States. This his very first album will take listeners on a musical journey. Using the high pitch Tri-tonal language of the West African Djembe drum. Bashir fuses trumpet, trombone, flute, conga, bells, dun-dun, electronic piano, Kalimba, shakers, kenkini, songba, Dun-Dun, timpani, roto toms, surdo, bombo, and trap-set in a delightful yet jazz driven style. This album features two tracks with Kwaku Payton student of the late great NaNa Dinizulu. Also featured is North Carolina based Poet/ M.C. Zayd Malik. This Cd will demonstrate that music is a communal undertaking and people tend to become musicians not so much from personal vocation as from a need to fulfill a social obligation. Drums from around the world are looked upon as upholders of tradition, and inventors of new melodies, poems, and rhythms. Steady Hands is a striking example of the importance of drums, and percussion instruments for dancers and music lovers alike.
