Ralph magwood has been performing onstage since the early age of six, as a vocalist and percussionist. Although he was born in Baltimore, he strongly holds Summerton, South Carolina, close to his heart as his home, this is the place from which his parents migrated and much family was left behind.

Influenced by his mother (a gospel singer) and his uncle (a guitarist who had played with the world renowned blues singer Muddy Waters), Ralph naturally began performing gospel and rhythm and blues. From 1957 to 1975, he performed in school plays, sang on church choirs and performed with several well-known groups.

In 1975 he attended the Peabody Preparatory and studied percussion. There he was compelled to play jazz. Ralph joined one of Baltimore''s hottest jazz international recording groups, the Fuzzy Kane Trio, which afforded him the opportunity to perform in major concerts as the opening act for George Benson, Roy Ayers, Sir Walter Jackson, Billy Taylor, Lonnie Liston Smith, Joe Williams and many other major artist.

As years progressed, his ability to sing and play percussion grew, which increased his popularity enabling him to perform with some the finest musicians in the country. His style, technique and character brought a change in how Baltimore''s musical community viewed the percussionist. After experiencing a recording session with Verdine White of "Earth, Wind and Fire," he developed an interest in record production. In 1981 this experience would lead him to produce his first record album with The Original Little Ark Male Chorus. Singing lead and background vocals Ralph performed with the male chorus at churches and in concerts throughout the East Coast.

In 1990,after approximately nine years of performing with the male chorus, Ralph was called to join a nationally known jazz, reggae, fusion recording group called the "Joe Cooper Project". He performed percussion and vocals on the group''s album "Journey." Ralph spent close to four years with the Joe Cooper Project studying reggae and world music and was able to perform in concerts with international acts such as the Whalers, Dennis Brown, Yellow Man and various other world beat and reggae artist. Being driven by a desire and thirst to create his own music and sound, He left the Project and went back to school.

While studying at Essex Community College in 1994, he began composing and writing songs reflecting his life experiences which led to the production and 1996 release of his first solo gospel record album "Just Passing By". Spiritually motivated to express to everyone the need to understand the value of the percious gift of life, Ralph''s "Just Passing By" musical compilation can only be described by words such as expressive, glorifying, sincere and inspirational.
