Details:
D. Ray Polk is a native Oklahoma Cityan who has performed and played guitar for almost 40 years. Naturally in this time many different musical genres influenced his own style and creativity, which is certainly evident on his ”Home Flight” CD. There’s the Clapton-esque “Closer to Home”, the Latin-esque “What Are You Doing to My Sky?”, the Spanish sounding “La Promesa”, the Bluesy “Strut ‘n Stroll”, the Jazzy “Scootin’ Along’, the Bluegrassy “The Happy Guitar”, the Rockin’ “I’m a Train”, and then “Flora”, which one listener described as Latin Jazz with a Southwestern flair! Still other tunes on “Home Flight” might be hard to categorize – so don’t, just enjoy!
You’ll hear all kinds of guitars on this CD, including 12-string, 6-string, nylon string acoustics, and an assortment of electrics. D. Ray also throws in some tasty piano work, and gets a little vocal help from the versatile Lynn Powell.
The album is half vocal songs, half instrumental. Don’t look for any boy-girl love songs here – D. Ray often likes to dive into the deep end, and has created a collection of tunes that are likely to slowly grow on you. At first glance “What Are You Doing to My Sky” may seem like another environmental protest song, but is actually about the deeper controversy of “chemtrails”. “My Head’s Been Turned Around” was written after reading his first David Icke book. “I’m a Train” – well, that’s maybe just the artist expressing his masculine side. When asked to make a statement about his music besides a 3rd person promo, Polk said, “My goal is to create music that can inspire others like music has inspired me.”
So check out “Home Flight”, crank it up, and be inspired!
