Biography:
Since she was a child, Barbara Natta Lagomarsino, alias Barbara Lagomarsino, has been a fond listener to classical music and a guitar-player since she was at primary school. With Roberto Lonoce, her music teacher up to high school, Barbara studied music theory and Solfege, early music, classical guitar and vocal music in the polyphonic sections of the sacred music choir he directed.
She then continued her classical guitar studies under the tuition of Massimo Laura.
Increasingly fascinated by the wide scope of vocal music, Barbara took the plunge into modern music being particularly influenced by jazz and Afro-American music (4th–year diploma by the New Academy of Modern Music, 5th–year diploma by the International Academy of Music, Milan, directed by Enrico Intra and Franco Cerri).
Her studies include harmony and composition (under the direction of Fabio Jegher), vocal improvisation (with Bob Stoloff, Bobby McFerrin’s teacher, and with the Berklee College of Music ensemble, Boston), Gospel & Spiritual (with Reverend Lee Brown), Portuguese music ( with Franco Brambati, a classical guitar player of Brazilian origin, and with Sonia Filho from Sao Paulo do Brasil), dramatics/performing arts (with Salvalaglio and Vasini), vocal technique (with Daniela Rando, Laura Fedele, Francesca Oliveri, Nino Tagliareni, Tom McKinney, Danila Satragno).
While performing gospel concerts, she also had her first studio-recording experiences (in 1996, she was a vocalist in Viva Mamanera, by Mau Mau; in 1997, she recorded Java Jive with the homonymous group she founded in 1994 and is presently known as Black in White).
Thanks to her early compositions, she was awarded a SIAE grant for the “Improvement of Contemporary Folk Music Composers” (with Mauro Pagani, Franco Fasano, Dario Zigiotto, Danilo Minotti, Franco Mussida, Emilio Di Stefano, Grazia di Michele and, last but not least, Jon Gardiner – LIPA, Liverpool), and participated in Arezzo Wave 2000, St. Marino 2001, Recanati 2002; recently, she took part in the Mantova Musica Festival - 2005, Musicultura Festival - 2006, Janis Joplin Prize - 2007, Un Mare di Donne - 2007.
Barbara Lagomarsino collaborates with Michele Ranauro (pianist and producer) and dj Spaturno for concerts and pre-productions. One of her songs, Flying Away, was the soundtrack of the Italian TV ad for Vivin C (2004-2007 advertising campaign).
Barbara collaborates with Massimo Spinosa (multi-instrumentalist, sound-designer and producer) who has put his faith in the girl he calls “The Landromarsinic Android” and produces her first album Il Modo Delle Mancine.
