INTRODUCING THE BAND

Two weeks of feast, Two weeks of famine

The Norton Saga begins

We were 3 Danish teenage friends, who put everything we had on red by dedicating ourselves 100% to making our mark on rock music. Stable jobs or higher education was not for us, so we packed our bags and left for London to live our dream. By crossing the North-sea to conquer Great Britain a new saga was in the making, but this time with amazing music and less pillaging.

The Viking contingent would be reduced to Thorbjørn Wulff (Bass) and Stephan Petersen (Guitar), whilst being strengthened by Ross Banford (Vocals) and completed in adding Ben Swann (Guitar). Dave Kirby (Drums) came on board early this year after 2 changes on this vital backing position. Joining forces with 3 Brits has resulted in great musical virtuosity and vocal energy.

The Dream: ”To make our mark on rock music”

Old England would not be plundered this time, but rocked. The songs excited Andy Whitmore (Elton John and Pet Shop Boys) who went on to produce our first single ‘Ladybug’ as well as other recordings. This gave us a taste for that the right music surrounded by the right team would enable us to make our mark on rock music.

Rough Sea

The band now had to make their next move – a record deal – and just as things were about to move along the band hit their worst crisis. The original band members were conned by their managers and were not able to release anything for a year and band members began to doubt the ‘Norton dream’. This resulted in a break up, but Ross, Stephan and Thorbjørn remained committed to make it. They decided to arrange auditions. ”We had applicants ranging from alcoholic opportunists, church singers, people who had never even touched an instrument to hardcore punks!” Only 2 out of the 29 would become part of Norton and Dave’s and Ben’s input and friendship have been invaluable ever since.

UK Break through

Since 2005 things have started to fall into place at an incredible speed. Norton’s first E.P. ”Two Weeks of Feast, Two Weeks of Famine” was released via Criminal Records in April 2005, produced by Matt Ollivier (Manics, Doves, Veils) and sold 1,200 copies. Norton have received several good reviews and our front man, Ross Banford, is being highly praised.

Norton speaks to the passion in all of us. Live your dream, intensely, right now. In their song Alligator you sense the preachers burning message of disappointment of our condition, but never giving up hope, whilst the music builds into a brutal force. The voice of the singer will burn into your soul and the band will take you for a ride. At times soft and optimistic - at times harsh and threatening. Norton are bringing their powerful sound to the people of Europe and are ready to take it everywhere.

UK Music Press Reviews & Quotes

"I have to say that Ross Banford''s (Norton) vocal talent is far superior to Chris Martins (Coldplay) own independent style, but in my opinion lyrically at least, these two bands carry similar sentiments to a certain extent"
Review by Taranis……The infamous online magazine covering up coming bands

Criminal Records

In April 2006 Norton recorded our two next singles : “Monday to Friday” and “Push Away” in Cardiff with Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals, Lostprophets) and played the NXNE festival in Canada in June (North American equivalent to SXSW).

This fall the band will be going on our first UK mini-tour to support our upcoming release, whilst playing London, Manchester, Liverpool, Brighton, Southampton and topping it off with a performance at the ITC being the world’s largest music festival for unsigned acts.

As the Viking homeland largely has ignored Norton thus far, but we will be following last year’s concerts up with Copenhagen gig towards end of the year.

The band now has line-up, style and mission and persistently increasing fan base, whilst ensuring that the right team of professionals are assembled around the music according to plan.

The deciding battle is taking place and the chance to be associated with this saga in making is now!

We need help in with regards to contacts within media (airplay and media) as well as indie labels. Please let us hear your ideas.

See you down Front!
