Reveiw From All About Jazz by https://www.tradebit.comhael Bailey
West Coast Saxphonist Robert Stewart turns in a searing and spitited live performance at the World https://www.tradebit.coms disc also has the distinction of being the late drummer Billy Higgins final recording.
Stewart opens the disc with his own funky origional "Judgement" from his World Stage release of the same https://www.tradebit.com follows this with another orgional "Get Out" followed by an upbeat version of "Days Of Wine and Roses".
The disc concluded with lengthy investigations of Ellington''s "Caravan" and John Coltrane''s "Impressions"
Richard Grant''s trumpet provides trumpet support and he can play the blues with the best of them.
But in the end it is Stewart who playes with all the fire and conviction of the taking what''s old and having it renewed.

Producers Notes!
Sometimes the most profund moments start quite innocently enough. I first heard the name of Robert Stewart from jazz drummer Billy https://www.tradebit.com should be remembered that Billy Higgins is the most recorded jazz drummer in https://www.tradebit.comre may be some debate about that accomplishment but I personaly think Billy may have recorded twice as many records as whomever is in secound place.I say that because Billy not olny played on recordings for major labels such as Blue Note and Columbia, but he also made himself available to anyone who knew him and had the courage to ask him to play on their https://www.tradebit.comre are a certain number of us who are trying to create something better than what is presently available so when Billy told me to contact this kid who was 15-years old at the time, when me and the band Black Note arrived in the Bay Area(Northern California) I did what I always did when Billy asked me to do something.I simply just followed https://www.tradebit.com all arrived at a club called "Pearls". The group was celebrating the release of it''d debut recording "43rd&Degnan", produced by yours truely, and the great drummer Higgins serving as financier and Excutive producer.I would have preferred to be involved in a project like 43rd& Degnan than anything that Michael Jackson,https://www.tradebit.com any other well known artist at that https://www.tradebit.com were trying to do something for the community,in hopes that we would one day have, as Billy Hollida, sang about,OUR OWN.
Although Robert was younger than any of the members of the Black Note band,he seemed more mature and had a smile that reminded me of https://www.tradebit.com was a confident, lets have some fun smile.I imedietly fealt that everything would work out https://www.tradebit.comle the group kind of paterened themselves after Wynton https://www.tradebit.comert approach was more old https://www.tradebit.com aproach included everyone who had ever picked up a tenor sax and had something to https://www.tradebit.comn he finaly got a chance to call out a tune all hell broke loose and the place was https://www.tradebit.com connected with the audience and the party was on. This first encounter would be one of many and would lead to the recording of "The Movement" which would be Billy''s last recording and what we described as the end of an era.
While the band had it''s sights on bigger and better things than either me or Billy could provide Robert always stayed close to the soarse and kept tabs on Billy''s sceduale and the goings on at the World https://www.tradebit.comn I visited his home in East Oakland I could see https://www.tradebit.com neighborhood resembled my old neighborhood in https://www.tradebit.comert showed me and Black Note bassist Mark Shelby the bullet holes in the wall of the living https://www.tradebit.com was a hardcore https://www.tradebit.comrs later Robert''s older brother would be murdered in that same neighborhood.
