One Inity has been denting the underground reggae scene on Maui for the last eight years, building a following playing parties and local clubs. They finally entered the studio in the latter part of 2009 and began recording their debut CD, entitled One Life.
Their journey began in a garage, when three long-time friends, Jose Tabisola, Logan “Kaniela” Kealoha, and Aaron Kahahane, decided to form a band and pursue music. Loving reggae from the beginning and building on that passion, they added two other instrumental members, Brian Amodo and Leilani Stark. As with most bands during their formative years, they had other members come and go at different stages of their progression. Kaniela made a prior military commitment that needed to be honored and was stationed in Guam for two years. During his absence, the band kept the dream alive and kept the music flowing. Upon his return, they got back to business and honed the unique sound that is now One Inity.
Seeing something distinctive in the band, Waiehu Records opened their studio doors to One Inity in 2009 and magic was born. Thankful for the opportunity, the band got right to work recording One Life, which consists of 12 original, roots tracks. One Life is scheduled for release in early February, 2010.
According to members of One Inity, they draw their inspiration from living life. Success comes from struggle, and One Inity has had their share while paving their path. When the band was asked what they hope the audience gets from listening to their music, they replied, “Music is an emotional art. It connects and moves people in different ways. If we can invoke that feeling in people through our music, then the art lives on.”
Reggae music in Hawaii is on the rise, and through their innovative sound, One Inity is ready to bring it to a whole different level. With the release of One Life, the listener is bound to hear what many are calling a “serious statement.” And what started as a dream eight long years ago, is now becoming a reality.
