Details:
The Paul Paoli Band is a contemporary Christian music band that proves to be as diverse, message-based, and exemplary in their musicianship as they are "pop"ular in sound. "Seasons” is the Paul Paoli Band''s follow-up to their debut CD "Trophy of Grace". And for fans and followers they will no less be treated to another tour de force of musicianship and diversity of style. This band is one of the hardest bands on the Contemporary Christian scene today to categorize or put in a box. Not truly praise and worship music, one still hears the cry of a saved soul praising God for His work in his life as a believer. Yet, at the same time, the message and the music do not come off in any way as "churchy" – this is probably part of the reason of their success as both a music ministry and a band that reaches beyond the appeal of pews. The embrace of secular listeners may be in part due to the fact that this band’s sounds are so influenced by secular and sacred acts. "I Will Tell" (Steven Curtis Chapman-influenced), "The Devil is Against Us" (B.B. King-influenced), "Rejoice and be Glad" (The Eagles-influenced), "Temptation in the Wilderness" (Santana-influenced), "My Prayer for You" (James Taylor-influenced) and "Off the Deep End" (Charlie Daniels-influenced). Just in these few examples one can''t help but also see how eclectic the range of their music is. But what is most amazing is how this band pulls off an album cohesively in its diversity of genres. It should not be overlooked that veteran music industry producer Paul Umbach lends his skilled hand and is at the helm of this body of work. After the band experienced a change of drummers over the last 2 years, Umbach is vital in maintaining a consistent sound since he produced their debut release as well. One can''t help but notice the creative influences the band''s new drummer Roberto Hewitt brings. His skill in both laying down tasty shuffle and groove beats are refreshing, but perhaps his greatest gift is in backing up the soloists and keeping a steady hand through some intricate timing changes and tempo shifts on some of the new material. Also noticeable on the new CD is the incredible sound of keyboardist Dave Cutrone''s new Hammond organ and his Jimmy Smith-influenced MoJo style appearances on a couple of tracks. Lead guitarist Rob Grosso once again returns to lay down some soaring guitar solos that will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, and his precise handling of knowing just what to place where without ever overdoing is equally impressive. And the chasing bass playing style of Rob Mays keeps this CD on track as it brings the band to a whole new level of music. Finally, the creative songwriting ability and masterful guitar and gifted fiddle work of Paul Paoli is again nothing short of dazzling whether experiencing them live or here in-studio. For lovers of classic rock ''n roll, Southern Rock, Folk, Blues, Jazz and Country, this release will certainly prove to have something for everybody. "Seasons" also encourage us to not simply sit back and listen, but also think once again about what the music is saying. There is, after all, a message in music – and this is one not to be missed.
