MP3 Doc Heide - Lessons I Learned From The Moon
Eloquent, mystical folk-inspired songs on topics from john muir to lost love.
10 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Gentle, NEW AGE: Meditation
Details:
This is our first CD, a folk-inspired collection of 10 original songs that create a dreamy, mystical mood.
The songs explore themes from American history ("Land of the Free, Home of the Brave") and great American writers ("The Mountains Call My Name" about John Muir, "Melville Recalls His Youth"), as well as more personal concerns (e.g., "The Eye of Heaven", which uses a Shakespearean sonnet to reflect on a lost love of mine).
I was honored to work with several outstanding artists on this project, including woodwind player Paul McCandless (Paul Winter Consort, Oregon), cellist/bassist Hans Christian (Robbie Robertson Band, Rasa,Toni Childs) and Ira Stein from the Windham Hill label. Half of the vocals are by my dear friend Fred Alley, who passed away at age 38 several weeks before Stephen Sondheim was due to give him the 2001 Richard Rodgers Award for best new American musical.
Fred also produced the album, and chose to create a uniformly mellifluous sound. The result is contemplative and peaceful.
Mitch Ritter (Dirty Linen Magazine) praised the CD for its "crystal-clear melodies" and its "almost Essenian purity". I''m not sure what that means, but it sure sounds nice.
We hope you''ll enjoy this journey through a soothing
world of literate lyrics and gorgeous instrumental performances.
