Details:
My name is Darrell Hansen. I was born in Ashtabula ,Ohio in 1957. I lived in Dorset ,Ohio until 1970 when my family moved to Astoria Oregon for about a year and a half. We were forced to move back to Ohio when my dad''s father(Grandpa) died and my dad''s mother (Grandma) had a stroke. She was bed ridden and we had to care for her. Back in Ohio things were a lot more accelerated in the culture shift that was taking place in our nation. The Rock scene had taken a turn to hard acid rock and what some would consider the psychedelic age had begun. I landed into a world that could be best described as moral confusion. Many were smoking pot and tripping on acid. Speed was widely available and wild parties were common place. "Free love "
was in. Students were running naked occasionally on school grounds and else where. I watched some of my friends who sold out for the sex, drugs, and rock and roll culture turn into zombies and some died very young.
I was very shy and maybe that saved me from some trouble, but I had my share. I was infatuated with some of the musicians of the day and was influenced by Neil Young and Jimmy Hendrix as well as others. I got my first guitar at 13 years of age and have been playing ever since. I even played in a Rock band for a while but I was not into it all the way. I couldn''t sell my soul for that culture. I knew there was more to life than that. I always had this oppressive guilt hanging over me. I knew a lot of the things I was doing were wrong. Well, I did manage to graduate in 1975 a long haired ,goofy looking, disturbed, empty young man. I went to work almost immediately at Smith and Wesson, an ammo plant. This was the place were I would meet my future wife. I was the same wild person even while we were going together. It was up and down. When we had finally had enough we started searching. I don''t know if either one of us knew exactly what we were searching for. We tried some churches. Finally a friend invited us to church. The group was meeting in a school gymnasium at the time. The preacher preached and my wife went forward and accepted Christ as her Saviour. I wasn''t ready. In fact, I resented the fact that she had gone forward. I felt betrayed. Some time later we were living in an upstairs apartment over an old store. That same group of people moved into the store and was renting the downstairs to hold their church services. I went to a service and they had a guest speaker from the South. He didn''t do much talking. He just screamed! He was preaching against the Rock movement amongst other things I was somewhat fond of. I was highly offended. I would do nice things like turning my amp up and playing my Fender guitar while the church was having their meeting downstairs. At one time I blew cigarette smoke in the preachers face as he tried to talk to me about the Lord. I was such a nice guy!
Approximately one year later, something happened that would cause me to come to earth. Our first child was on the way. My wife had prayed for me for a full year and now her prayers were to be answered. On October 9th, 1979, while sitting at my kitchen table, that same pastor of the church where my wife accepted Christ led me to the Saviour. I was wonderfully changed. It was so drastic that my friends thought I was nuts. I didn''t quit playing music or writing songs. I just played and wrote for the Lord.
To make a long story short and 8 children later I am still happily serving the Lord in Vale Oregon. I am still writing and singing for the Lord. We have CD #2 in the works and expect it to be done in the spring of 2005. Until then there is plenty to enjoy in the "Please Don''t Kill Me Again" CD. This is truly a spiritual journey. It starts with the story of Christ and His reason for coming to the earth to die in "Despised By So Many". The total helplessness of man and our need of a broken and contrite spirit in songs like "Be Not Far From Me", "I Waited Patiently":, and "Through The Twilight". The terrible pain and suffering of Our Lord in "Please Don''t Kill Me Again" . The story of a man accepting Christ as Saviour in "Long Enough". Then God''s watchful care His children in "I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes". This is the whole salvation experience in music. Be careful, this CD could change your life! No it is not a polished Hollywood production. If it were it would lose it''s spiritual significance. You''ll want to get alone with this for a while. Whew! You can feel the Holy Spirit behind these songs. Perfect for commuting! Enjoy. God bless you as you listen and meditate. Darrell Hansen
