Details:
Datura 1.0 is a Noisescape/Dark Ambient musician and Artist/Designer

During the 80''s and early 90''s Datura 1.0 played in local Minneapolis Noise trickster bands, amoung them Duck Kicking Vulture and Cancer Bunny. Datura 1.0 became discouraged with music when the last band broke up and spent much time exploring different consciousness changing skills like Magick, Shamanism, Meditation and Lucid dreaming. After a period of time, his attention was drawn back to music via his interest in computer generated art. Datura 1.0 now is exploring the trance/consciousness changing aspects of sound construction .

Datura 1.0 uses computers and custom modified childrens sound making toys and modified keyboards as well as more conventional instruments like electric guitars .

Morphium/The Pataloop is composed of two long experimental pieces which I felt did not fit with other work I had been doing, I decided to release them both together unedited rather than trim them down and loose their essential meaning.

I composed Morphium originally as a personal tool for inducing lucid dreaming. I created sonic sigils (by using actual graphic sigils I created by the method first outlined by A.O. Spare the infamous "Chaos" Magician) and then ran them through a program that creates sound from images. I used these sounds as the basis for the music and then made Mantras from re-enforcement phrases like "Tonight I will have a lucid dream" I linguistically hacked these phrases up until they were only strange sounding Mantra chants and then added them to the music as well.

Of course I don''t mean to imply that listening to Morphium will cause the listener to have lucid dreams because s/he doesn''t have the residual subconcious memory of the original phrases. But I believe the piece stands on its own as a powerful piece of music.

The Pataloop was originally pitched to the internet collective TAPEGERM as a sort of sonic conceptual art piece, TAPEGERM members use audio loops submitted by collective members to a mutually accessible pool to create their own individual music. My idea was to explore the idea of audio loop by creating a meta-massive loop from ever larger loops of audio, infering that the process could go on forever, each loop being itself part of a larger loop, a kind of Archetypal sonic Ourobourous.

Although the idea met with acceptance from some TAPEGERM members it never really got going so I decided to create the Pataloop myself using every audio loop I submitted to TAPEGERM while I was a member. I divided the 60 some loops Into groups of 5, each group of 5 was mixed together to create 12 longer loops which were mixed in groups of 2 to create 6 even longer loops, which in turn were mixed in groups of 3 to create 2 very long loops which were mixed together to create an extremely long loop which I then digitally reversed and added on to the end to create a closed, ever repeating circle. Of course if there existed 60 other massive loops such as the Pataloop, we could mix them together in groups of 5..................and so on forever.
