Details:
Dave Harpe has been a musician since the age of 16, when he played in a coffee house in Porter Indiana. He started his working life as an industrial mechanic at the post office, but drifted toward a career in electronics largely because of an early interest and a strong aptitude in this field. He spent many years in the high tech grinder called Silicon Valley, and in the last few years returned to music as a way to relax. It was at this time that his style changed drastically, from folk songs and political satire to something much more inspirational, with improvisation and some new and different instruments, including drums such as the djembe, ashiko, and native flutes and didgeridoos.
During this time, he found he needed to make some major life changes and learn a much more spiritual and satisfying way of being, and this is reflected in his music.
His new interests include bicycles, voluntary simplicity and Reiki healing. He makes many of his own instruments. His music has been described as hypnotic, healing, relaxing, and uplifting, a refreshing change from what is usually heard in the main stream.
Dave says this about the Gentle Winds CD:
I have been performing some of these songs since 1997, and I have always been asked if I had them on a CD. In 2002, I produced Gentle Winds, and included the songs most often asked about by people who hear my music, and which fit into the theme of the CD. What I wanted to do was make a CD which was entirely relaxing and gentle. It does not have drums or vocals.
These CDs are not yet glass mastered and mass produced, but I use a Macintosh and a Teac CD burner to make them. This combination has been the best thing I have seen for making high quality CDs without glass mastering, and only a few people have had CD players which can''t play them in the 4 years I have been producing them. Many are tested on a Panasonic player I bought in 1998, so old players are not usually a problem.
As a musician, I feel I have accomplished a lot more than anything I did in Silicon Valley. It is hard to believe some of the things which actually happened, and made it possible to change my life in this way. Synchronicity is real, and it helps you when you follow your heart instead of your fears. My music has touched the lives of people in a way much more gratifying to me than the work I did back then. Some people who got an early copy of Gentle Winds say they still listen to it several times a week.
It has been an amazing journey from where I was to where I am now, and I am grateful for all the doors that have been opened along the way. Thanks to all.
