DTR - Down To Rock started rapping in 1982 at an age of damn near still a baby (toddler) with a variety of aliases from "Mike on the Mic" to "Dr. Jamm" and "M.C. Mic". In 1983 he became DTR (Devastating Tough Rapper).Rap was totally brand new the world over at this time and virtually unfamiliar in the South.
DTR''s immediate role models were his brothers Otis Ray (Kid Rap On - The BowLegged Lover) & Willie Littlefield (Kidd Fresh The Poet) who placed him in their group The Super Rhyme Rockers along with Tasha Harper (Garfield) in 1984.

That''s what the scene was from 1984 to 1989 as DTR (now Diverse Tough Reciter) made a name for himself destroying any and all battling who dared to rap in his presence (including WDAWR - former Fila Fresh Crew members who rapped with the D.O.C.).To this day he STILL remains undefeated in a rap battle or freestyle.
In 1989, DTR (now Down To Rock) began dealing with Goldfinger (from "Sheik Fool" fame) and Quinton "M.C. Black" Banks (now known as Quint Black). They separately transitioned DTR from a street battle rapper to one who can record songs.
In 1990, DTR was working with "D.J. Earthquake" (Floyd), Johnny "Blade" Nutson & Louie "Da Wolf" White (host of "Da Blues" and personality of Soul 73 KKDA AM). Tommy Quon , a mutual associate was prepping the world for "Vanilla Ice". DTR was to be a part of the movement. Negativity ensued and relations soured.

DTR was in the streets. He was no different from any other hustler or thug grinding.
Problems on the home front sent him deep into crime, specifically robbery.
He went from being a local celebrity and underground legend/forefather to being an afterthought and hoodlum.
Minutes after a discussion with Quint Black on an August night in 1991, DTR caught a case and went away for 8 years for robbery to prison.
Upon returning in 1999, DTR was greeted by reality. He was a nobody, not even a distant memory. Only a handful of people remember him or his legacy that he just spent 8 calendars repping. Even though he was one of the first rappers in Dallas EVER as well as one of the first 5 in South Dallas, no one remembers and no one cares.
Mill Ticket Records and Reel II Real Records were supposed to do some things with him. That never materialized even though they all grew up together. Goldfinger was now into his nephews Twistit and had no time for DTR. Quint Black was the man of the hour signed to Too Short''s Too Short Records and DTR couldn''t get at him the way he really wanted to.
So, DTR quit rapping, settled down and did the T. Pain thing. He married a stripper! He was a happy "has been that never was".
In 2000 DTR came up with a horrible cd "When HE Get Out?" that served as a mirror to him that he was still rapping like he was when he was locked up, but people in the "free world" want something different.
With the help of Big E. (Earnest) he came up with "Let Me Be Your G-String" and created a minute buzz.
In 2001 his brother Littlefield joked around with the concept of starting a label calling it "Go To Hell" meaning you''re either with him or you can go to hell. He recorded with (now defunct) PowerHouze Records before their shine with the Young Hustlaz and Corey''s conversion into Clout Records. DTR was part of that as a buzz was generated.
Littlefield got shot and went another direction with music. DTR''s marriage came undone. Neither was really serious about music now.
In 2004, VL Harrison (Xkal DTR''s former cell mate) ran into DTR and invited him to join the fledgling Piranha Records. They recorded "Ass & Thighs", performed it in Cleburne, Tx. the same night and got intense love. That act brought DTR back to the rap world.
In 2005 DTR did a number of shows and completed recording his current cd UPGRADE. On it he worked with Piranha Records, Highland Hills Productions (Big Dank King, Krazy Mic & Lo-Macc), Ballernaires (Redd), Mind Eye Productions, High Society Productions, Raylow of the Rowgish Clique and Grifter (Alienz - Black Azz Wayne & Young Solja).
"I didn''t get my ''mojo'' back until the end of completing the cd. I was playing on most of it. Now, I''m serious. Now I''m ''bout this rap shit." says DTR.
In the middle of making the cd, before it was even complete, DTR was offered a deal from Jive Records in 2005. It didn''t pan out. Still, major labels will continue to pursue him if they''re smart. He''ll probably bring Go 2 Hell to a major this year.
Upgrade is a statement basically suggesting that people step their game up in all aspects of life. That''s what DTR intends to do.
