MP3 the DT's - 4 Track Disasters

Lo-fi basement experiments, or what we did while still trying to learn our instruments.

20 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Punk, POP: Quirky

Details:
During the summer of 2001, when Reed bought his drums to start the band, he also purchased a cheap 4 track recorder. That is how this album was born. While trying to learn how to play their instruments and figure out what their sound was exactly, the DT''s went through quite a few blank tapes. Most of it is stupid, some of it is embarrassing, and the rest is a tiny bit amusing. Try and take a lot of drugs, especially the ones that make you laugh, before listening to this.

Here''s some backstory on each of the songs:

I GO LIE DOWN NOW - Just experimenting with drums and bass. The title refers to a phrase Reed kept repeating loudly during the wedding reception of a friend, where Matt and he were groomsmen.

DEATH BY MONKEYBOY - Monkeyboy is a real guy who comes in to Reed''s work. Pretty much all the lyrics are true. More experimenting with instruments.

IT''S OK TO BE FAT - Reed wrote the lyrics and they were funny (at the time). So, music was needed immediately. Everything recorded in one take in about five minutes.

FEEL - Sometimes Reed tries to write lyrics with more meaning. This is proof that he must never do so again.

FUDGE FACTORY - Reed just like to say fudge factory. Trying out different drum rhythms here. Matt thinks the vocals sound like a Red Hot Chili Peppers song.

GO - The vocals make Reed cringe. The bass line''s kinda cool, though.

HYMEN - Reed''s rule of lyric writing #1. Be as vulgar as possible. The music was improvised on the spot.

I DON''T KNOW WHY - More stuff about Reed''s work, a constant source of material. Slightly catchy, simple tune, impossible to play live for some reason.

I''M TOO DRUNK - Birthed from a drunken jam session one night. Matt says he ripped on an Iggy Pop tune. Now, only the courts can decide.

JACOBSON''S A JERK - Reed''s old boss kept saying nasty things behind his back. This little tune was passed around to his co-workers. The ultimate revenge. Fun to play live.

DAISY - Matt sings!! He refuses to tell anyone the lyrics.

MICHAEL BAY - Reed just wanted to take a jab at the loathsome film director. Music is as improvised as Bay''s uninspired direction.

SECRET OF THE TURD - The subject matter was funny, so music and lyrics had to be made to wrap around it. Completely improvised, including the lyrics. Still mildly amusing after all this time.

DELICIOUS - Reed, very drunk. Lyrics, very bad.

YOUR MOM - The core lyrics started at a very messed up party years and years ago and passed down through the years like folklore. Or an old sweater. You had to be there, and be thankful you weren''t.

ULTIMATE NACHOS - Reed experimenting with spoken word. Mixed all wrong. Oh, well. Ultimate Nachos is a character Reed was working on for a short story.

LIVE!! - Recorded at Knickerbockers in Lincoln, Nebraska, during the DT''s second performance ever. Very rough, but a few nuggets of possibility. Matt and Reed were too drunk to drive back to Omaha afterward, so they blew the gig money on a hotel room and snuck down to the swimming pool with a 12 pack of beer at 3am. Very cool night.
