The band found its beginning in 1988 in Sterling, Colorado, when guitarist Fred Morris and bass player Gerald Hines began playing music and singing together. These two soon acquired drummer Mark Haddock and later guitarist Randy Nuding.
After eight years of performing as "The Sunrize Band", the group felt the time was right to change its name and DueWest was born! A progression of other musicians have joined these four on stage over the years. Laura Hagan started writing the newsletter in December, 1998, and now provides additional support with the lights, website, and promotions. After over 12 years of being lead guitarist, Randy retired from music in 2003. Tim Edwards, an exceptional musician, has a degree in music composition and is now lead guitarist. Dave Gassen added his fine bass playing talent in January, 2006.
Gerald, Fred and Mark also are talented vocalists and provide their unique styles to lead vocals and harmony. The group has also written a number of songs and has released their first CD which includes eight original songs. The CD has received rave reviews.
Some of the many accolades the band and its members have received include runners up in the Wrangler Country Star Search, winners in the Colorado Composer''s Classic, and voted as best country band by the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999 and in 2000. In 2001 Gerald received the award for ''Best Songwriter of the Year'' by the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame. Fourteen songs were submitted to Nashville. The debut CD, officially released on December 29th of the same year, was named after the award winning song ''Again''.
DueWest has played for many activities and events year round for clients including Six Flags Elitch Gardens, Jefferson County Festival of the West, Lakewood on Parade, Anheiser Busch, City of Aurora, https://www.tradebit.comt (now Qwest), HGL Marketing Group, Coors Brewing Company, and MCI. DueWest was also house band for the Frontier Club in Aurora, CO for two years in a row. The band is available for nightclubs, private or corporate events, special events, and other venues.
