Divine Singers was formed in March 2006 by choreographer, lead vocalist, and dancer, Clavia Allen. Divine Singers consist of Clavia Allen [group leader] her sister Angel Allen [lead vocals and dance] Kassinda Charles [lead vocals and dance] Chanel Ballantyne [back vocals and dance] and Afia Vernon [back vocals and dance] - Clavia, Angel, and Afia, were born in Trinidad, Kassinda is from St. Vincent, and Chanel is American. They all worship together every week at Divine Word of Truth in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Divine Singers was birthed out of a dance ministry; “Divine Unmovable Youth Dancers;” - five young ladies dancing before the Lord. Whenever the Lord presented them with an opportunity to sing – they did so. They just have a strong desire to serve God in any and every capacity, be it dancing, or singing, or testifying, or just being a witness for the Lord with their lives. Nothing they did was of self, for God has blessed them with many talents and they aren''t ashamed to use their gifts for his glory and towards the building of his everlasting kingdom.
Many times the members of Divine Unmovable youth Dancers were teased "when is your CD coming out?" We always joked about it and said "soon;" but God was serious with what he had in store. The time came when God teamed up Divine Singers with Bro. Stephen David McIntosh, a songwriter form the island of St Vincent , and they decided to record a CD together. Back then Divine Singers were known as ''Divine Unmovable Youth Dancers'', they had to choose another name that was more appropriate for a group of singers; after some soul searching, they came up with ''Divine Singers''. Then things started happening – FAST. ”We rehearsed the songs” – “then we went into the recording studio [first time] to record the CD” [a little intimidating] – “then it was off to the photo studio” [after we got our hair done – of course] – “then came the boxes and boxes of CDs” – WOW!!! – “then we jumped onto the information superhighway doing 100 mph you know websites and stuff https://www.tradebit.com we are on myspace also” – “then we had to organize our concert [CD release party] and distribute flyers – sell tickets – perform live with video tapes everywhere. We now have a live performance up on our myspace. A DVD can’t be too far away.
Divine Singers is living proof that dreams and prayers do come true once you stay faithful to God. We couldn’t believe we''ll ever make it to the studio, having our own website, our own my space and an ALBUM??!!! Whoa! God specializes in things that seem impossible!
This is just the beginning for us, we’re young and we''re pushing towards heaven. God deserves all the praise for this and thank you again Bro. Steve, Pastor and Sis. Allen for seeing this vision.
