Easter is celebrated by over a billion people worldwide who until now had no established or widely known annual Easter songs for the number one Christian holiday of Easter. Christmas has Christmas Carols but the number one Christian holiday and number two economic holiday of Easter does not have a single recognizable song that everyone, everywhere can name.
Therefore, American Composer, Mr. Daryl E. Ellis, submitted his distinguished musical compositions in a double CD set entitled, ’The Spirit Of Truth Is Com.e’ for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize nomination and prize in music. Being awarded a Pulitzer nomination and prize in music will authentically make Mr. Ellis a true American Music Ambassador as he is committed to go to every continent and every country on Earth and teach mankind to sing his American Easter Holiday compositions collection, ‘The Spirit Of Truth Is Com.e.’
Daryl E. Ellis, Master Composer/Producer, was born in Toledo, Ohio and began to show an unusual attraction to music at an early age. The sounds of music, the pictures of organs and pianos in the local Sunday newspaper and the automobile drive pass the local music shop all evoked an extreme energetic response from Daryl that was overwhelming and noticed by all bystanders.
Therefore, at the age of five years old, Mr. Ellis’ parents sought beginning piano lessons from a neighborhood piano instructor for a then price of $2.00/half hour in 1961. Daryl soon became a child prodigy in music and was being paid to perform music at the age of seven years old. Daryl became very interested in the Hammond organ at this time and also begin private organ lessons at the Toledo Bach Conservatory. Within one year, his instructor at the Bach Conservatory was giving Daryl free organ lessons if Daryl would also teach their staff this “new kind of music” called ‘Gospel Music’. Daryl obliged, went on to win talent shows, perform concerts and recitals and amaze all at his level of talent.
Daryl E. Ellis composed his first original music composition at the age of 14, created his high school’s first gospel choir, performed in bands and singing groups and became the director and minister of music at his original church, St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Toledo, Ohio. At this point in the 70’s Daryl’s musical idol was of course Stevie Wonder. The cultural and music expansions in American music from the 50’s to the 70’s instilled in Daryl a rich variety of music that he experienced, performed, studied and appreciated. Mr. Ellis flourished as a keyboardist, choir master and a composer.
Subsequently, Mr. Ellis was accepted into Bowling Green State University, (BGSU) and received a BA in Music Education, Piano and Choral Music from their School of Music in March, 1981.. During Daryl’s college days, he composed the BGSU’s Gospel Choir’s Album, ‘We Should Pray’ and his own church choir’s top ten hit, ‘Our Day Will Come’ Album nationally on Savoy Records and distributed by Arista Records. This 1979 ‘Our Day Will Come’ LP marked one of the first contemporary gospel choir music recordings in American history.
BGSU’s School of Music enhanced Daryl’s overall musical experiences as he performed in Big Bands, Classical Chorales, Barbershop Chorus, Swing Choirs, and multiple instrumental, choral, electronic and composition studies. Mr. Ellis was hired by BGSU’s Vice Provost’s Office as the BGSU Minority Student Music Coordinator. As a grand finale to a rich history and education in music and before moving west to California in 1981, Daryl composed a double album entitled ‘In Spirit And In Truth’ by Daryl Ellis and The St. Mark Recording Choir that he recorded live at the University of Toledo. Daryl combined the power and intensity of his 80 voice gospel choir with the dynamic sounds of his BGSU Big Band to again compose and record a groundbreaking and spectacular musical event.
In furtherance of Daryl’s musical horizons he moved to Los Angeles, California in 1981. Mr. Ellis continued his musical genius in the music industry, education system, churches and the L.A. community receiving many awards. Mr. Ellis has since placed in the annual Billboard Songwriter’s Contest, won the Disney’s Lion King Gospel Song Rewrite Contest of Elton John’s ‘Circle Of Life’, worked as a composer for Stevie Wonder’s company, ‘Writer’s Quarters West, and as music director for the noted 20,000 member mega church First A.M.E. of Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Ellis also attended California State University at Los Angeles beginning in 1988 in the MA Masters degree program of Educational Administration.
