What does heavy metal and Bambi have in common?
With various influences from Patsy Cline to Black Sabbath and everyone in between, today, Determination''s music is often compared in quality and sounds to the likes of Disturbed, Tool, and Korn.
Unfortunately, this band’s exhilarating combination of musical talent is the direct result of Bambi killings. The founder of the band and rhythm guitarist, Robbie Prince, was out deer hunting in South Texas (literally, in the middle of nowhere) with his parents and their long time hunting buddies, the Landrums. On this particular weekend, the Landrums brought their son Chris, a recent MI graduate, along with them. Even though deer hunting was not really Chris'' cup of tea, the parents were convinced that he and Robbie would get along well because they both had long hair, tattoos, and an interest in music, so surely they''d find something to talk about.
As it turned out, Robbie and Chris started talking music right off and kept it up the entire weekend. Within two weeks, Chris had auditioned for the band and mesmerized both Robbie and Mikey Smith, (the drummer and vocalist of the group) with his amazing riffs.
To complete the group Chris called in the guy that always got him into trouble as a kid and the one who first got him interested in heavy metal, Jay Hernandez, to play bass.
Together, these guys make some totally awesome music that has some fans raving that Determination is the Best Heavy Metal Group to come out of Texas since Pantera.

I wanted to respond with my review of Determination''s newest CD, Sealed In Skin. I am going to be straight up-front about it...this CD deserves to be on the Top Ten List! I was blown away by the vocals of Mikey Smith, and ... the shredding guitarist, Chris Landrum. You guys are all awesome musicians!!!!
How would I sum up this awesome band as a whole? FULL OF POWER. Determined to be leaders in the Texas Music Scene. Natural-Born Musical Genius hard at work!!! May Determination carry on the legacy that Dallas, Texas is known for: C. F. H. (Cowboys From Hell)

A hardcore band, this raucous bunch of guys seem to be becoming Tarrant County’s new masters of anguish. Formed in 1993 by guitarist, Robbie Prince, Arlington based Determination suffered through a few lineup changes ''" as most bands do ''" before they found that magical lineup.
Determination has had some good shows over the past few years, with the most memorable being one at the old Texas Billiards and a Harder Beat showcase. “We actually won the first HB showcase we were in...!” Robbie adds.
These guys have a great attitude and a great sense of humor that will take them part of the way. But Determination is what will finish the journey.

This band is great! The lead guitarist (Chris Landrum) reminds me of a young Dimebag, with both his looks and his playing. And the drummer (Mikey Smith) is awesome. I hate to just pick out those two because the whole band is great, but these two guys just really stuck out.
