Details:
LOOKER began as a gleam in the eye of Boshra AlSaadi and Nicole Greco, two woefully misguided adolescents who met at Pennsylvania Governors school, a summer program for band camp rejects. Misunderstood by the world and cast out by their peers, they retreated to the inner galaxies contained in the music of the Beatles and Velvet Underground. They soon began twanging on a plywood guitar in order to express what they felt inside. They failed. What was inside was stuck and would remain so for many years to come.

Reunited in NYC a decade later and armed with much improved taste and years in the trenches with shitty bands they reached a tipping point; it was time to turn pipe dreams into pipe bombs under the local music scene. It was time to put the band that had never existed back together. A motley parade of rhythm sections were auditioned and found wanting: students, firefighters, future lovers, former friends, the bungled, the botched and the Swiss. Finally a drummer was arrived upon after two recommendations from completely random people: Rich Smalley is not only a red-blooded heterosexual male, he thrashes his green trap kit like a devil dog driven before Satan’s own hunt masters. In summer 2003 Nicole spent a summer teaching art in Santa Cruz, California. In between placating the spawn of millionaires she found time to press the King’s Shilling into the sweaty palm of one Rachel Smith. A Portland native relocated to NYC, she left Hippy land with a brand new crew and a very good reason to learn the four string bass guitar fiddle.

The line up finally settled, the band played their first show at Pianos in September 2003. Early shows were notable more for their shambolic and chaotic energy than any musical chops. That’s all changed now. With ridiculously contagious melodies and a newly ferocious stage presence, the band has gained a dedicated local following and have been packing shows at top NYC clubs, gaining great press and radio play. The band has recently cut four songs with heavyweight producer Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Raveonettes) and co-producer Joe Blaney (the Clash, Keith Richards). The two managed to capture the raw guitar sound and luscious harmonies that has become Looker’s signature sound. The band is revving up to release the new E.P. in the upcoming months and a US and UK tour are in the works for the next year.
