MP3 Lo-Fi Genius - This Is Rocket Science

A mad scientist captures members of Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Foo Fighters, Barenaked Ladies, Phish, The Who, and Guided by Voices. Using unspeakably diabolical methods, he extracts the best parts of each of these groups and creates a new being: Lo-Fi Genius

10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Classic Rock, ROCK: 90''s Rock

Details:
Since 1997, Doug Blose (lead guitar, vocals), Pat Colleran (rhythm guitar, bass), Mike Martin (drums), and Jon Reiff (bass, rhythm guitar, and vocals) have been performing as Lo-Fi Genius. They have hit the stage at many of the best Philadelphia area clubs, including The Pontiac Grille, The Khyber, The Rusty Nail, Doc Watson''s Pub, The Grape Street Pub, and the Hard Rock Cafe.

In April 1998, while attempting to finish a demo session in New York City, co-founder Jon Reiff took out his TASCAM Porta III 4-track recorder. One of the other members said something to the effect that Jon really knew what he was doing, to which Jon replied sarcastically, "yeah, I''m a real lo-fi genius." And the proverbial "right name" for the band had been found.

In August 2000, the band released independently its first CD, "This Is Rocket Science", which was recorded at Indre Studios in Philadelphia.

In December 2001, Lo-Fi Genius was one of four finalists in the Philadelphia market for "The 12 Bands of Christmas" contest (sponsored by The Hard Rock Cafe, https://www.tradebit.com, and Sam Adams Beer).

ENOUGH HISTORY! WHAT IS LO-FI GENIUS?

The band hates to be pigeonholed into a specific musical category but the best description is this:

Lo-Fi Genius is a rock band.

They don''t do rap/metal.

They don''t do rap/rock.

They don''t do grunge (which they like) or pseudo-grunge (like Bush, a band that Jon thinks is a poison in the bloodstream of music).

They''re not "alternative" (and just what the hell is alternative anymore?).

And, thankfully, they''re not glorified preachers like Creed.

The comparison that is most often made is that Lo-Fi Genius is a rock band in the style of Foo Fighters.

In listening to the songs of Lo-Fi Genius, you can spot the influences of Aerosmith, Phish, The Who, Guided by Voices, and Pearl Jam (to name a few).

Is the band as good as these influences? No.

Well, not YET, anyway.
