San Francisco Bay Guardian : A touch of Belly, a touch of chunky power pop, and a healthy slathering of melodic, handy hooks: Any way you mix it, it''s a catchy recipe, and methinks Lula Miss knows how to cook. Opening track of "12 Mistakes" spotlights singer-guitarist (Ualani) Teale''s wistful vocals as they sigh, croon, and reach out to pluck the ol'' heartstrings with a steady, mellifluous touch. "Liar" gets grittier, kicking off with a vicious, neometallic guitar riff before settling down to a rocking, tempo-shifting rumble. For the plaintive "Wears Thin," one of the guitar boys - either Chris Molla or Matt Sherman - supplies vocals for a soulful, doleful farewell to love that features a dreamy acoustic touch and lots of convincing agony: "She came from Dallas / She couildn''t walk a straight line / She seemed so callous / I didn''t seem to mind." Sometimes pain is such a pleasure, y''know? "Bride," a biting tale of self-discovery, closes the tape with a chorus of jangling guitars and jaunty keyboards. Two thumbs up, missies. -Neva Chonin

BAM Magazine: Not too many San Francisco bands would flaunt reviews that align them with mainstream acts like Toad the Wet Sprocket and Belinda Carlisle, but when it comes to pure pop ambition few are as honest as Lula Miss. Singer (Ualani) Teale''s sweet voice hangs nicely against the backdrop of mid-tempo guitar workouts. On tender songs like "12 Mistakes" she even spins two-ply melodies that are both invigorating and soothing, suggesting dark corners underneath the band''s breezy exterior. --Aidin Vaziri

MTV Online: Without management or label representation, a local band has their work cut out for them trying to stand out in the competitive San Francisco market. Just ask freshman pop band LULA MISS who have been gigging around the city for the past five years on their own. Some bands with the same degree of determination, concentration and belief in their own music would have given up without industry support. But those bands probably couldn''t match the sounds of LULA MISS'' debut release Corona. Judging from its catchy, melodic guitar-pop sounds, the long-awaited commercial attention might be closer than they think.

Corona identifies a gathering of musical influences that come together to give the band its unique pop sound. The combination of the fourteen tracks bring back memories of some of TOAD THE WET SPROCKET''s more down-tempo, heartfelt guitar strums, while focus tracks "Twisted" and "She''s Everything" fall into the category of power-pop with their metallic guitar riffs that give the songs a harder edge. "Liar" nods to JEWEL''s lyrics sweetened by a resonant female voice, and "This Time" highlights up-tempo, guitar-pop influences from the female-fronted alternative band LETTERS TO CLEO.

The strengths of lead vocalist (Ualani) Teale which give the band''s sound its stand-out element come through in full force on the radio-ready track "Twelve Mistakes." Recalling the wistful vocals of TANYA DONNELLY and BELINDA CARLISLE, "Twelve Mistakes" has attracted the likes of commercial radio stations Alice and KFOG, which have both featured the track on artist spotlight and local radio programs.
