Dexter Everything Falls Apart

With supreme control, Dexter has been able to move through life with his calm and always prepared demeanor as well as the code of Harry. However, almost from the beginning of the Dexter series, his life seems to lead down a path that will unravel sooner than he thinks.

Family

His normal family life crumbles as the serial killing brother from his past steps forward to be part of his future. The resulting battle would eventually end with emotional scars for Deborah and Dexter. Deb Morgan wanted a relationship similar to Dexter and his girlfriend Rita, she found Rudy Cooper but in the end, Rudy was the one that found her. Using Deborah he was able to get close to his long lost brother. 

He then forced Dexter to choose between the brother he never knew he had and the last member of his adopted family. Dexter chose to save his sister Deborah. Even though he wanted to be with the brother who shared dark desires, it would mean the death of his sister, an innocent. Choosing his brother would also go against the code of Harry.

Relationship

Dexter’s relationship with Rita was great for him as she was emotionally damaged as he was. She did not want an intimate relationship and that was just fine with Dexter. Things became uncomfortable as Rita became stronger and wanted to be more a part of his life. Dexter was a loner and broke off a relationship once the woman demanded more from him. He could not leave Rita even when he wanted to. Although he claims to be an emotionless monster, he was falling in love with Rita against his will.

Their relationship became strained once Rita’s husband was released from prison. It became endangered when Rita thought he was an addict and it almost fell apart when he cheated on her with pyromaniac Lila.

Job

Dexter’s job as a blood expert has him in a field that he is comfortable with. He knows all about blood, its patterns and the weapons that created it. Being a serial killer himself, Dexter often helps the police solve crimes since they cannot think like a killer the way that Dexter can.

His job and everything else is almost jeopardized when Sgt. James Doakes begins to stalk him and search into his life and background. No matter how hard he shakes, Doakes won’t leave his trail and suspects him of something even though he has no proof that Dexter is not what he appears. It all comes to a head when Doakes finds him with the body parts of his latest victim.

Dark Hobby

On his own time, Dexter stalks and kills those who deserve to die. He goes after those who take the lives of innocent people to satisfy their own desires. In the second season Dexter finds his serial killing hobby in danger as his underwater grave site is found and brought to the surface.

Dexter has to contend with FBI agent Lundy, a man known for breaking the hardest cases and catching the most cunning of criminals. Dexter tries to keep the spotlight off of him because Harry would not want him to be caught. He also has to avoid detection because the truth about who he is would destroy his sister Deborah and would be disastrous for girlfriend. 

Rita’s husband was an abusive man who was addiction to alcohol and drugs. Her faith in herself would be nonexistent if she found out that her next relationship was shared with a murderer.
