"PULSE" is the debut album from guitarist LT (Linda Taylor); true to her own voice and emerging from a lifetime of learning. A self-produced, mostly self-performed work of instrumental funk, the album draws upon LT''s background in R&B and funk, while showcasing her blues driven guitar playing and her jazz-based harmonies. From the soul-drenched epic, "Baby Blue" to the angular "Kanji To Me" through the Curtis/MeShell influenced "Can''t Complain", LT''s playing marries the freedom of jazz with the foundation of soul, into a fusion that can only be described as "MonkFunk".
LT may be best known for her work on the ABC Television show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", hosted by Drew Carey and now in production on its sixth season. The stellar cast includes Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady, Chip Estin, Brad Sherwood, Greg Proops, Jeff Davis, and special weekly guests. "Whose Line" features Linda Taylor and keyboardist Laura Hall improvising music in support of the cast, who adlib themed lyrics. LT and Miss Hall improvise music in styles ranging from seldom-heard Latin grooves to current pop hits. The two were featured in a TV Guide article entitled "Cool Jobs" in March of 2001, and have appeared on CBS''s "Hollywood Squares" along with the rest of the members of the "Whose Line" cast.
LT was born and raised in Southern California. She started playing the guitar at age 4, and though she had several teachers early on and participated in the typical school programs, is primarily self-taught. After years of performing locally, mostly on the R&B circuit, LT began touring heavily with jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum. Highlights include a performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival with special guests Monty Alexander and Wallace Roney. World tour credits include Tracy Chapman''s "Smoke and Ashes" tour, a gig that spanned several years in the mid ''90s. Later, getting back to her R&B roots, LT joined domestic tours with a variety of singers, including Thelma Houston, Vesta Williams, Chante Moore, and Jesse Powell, performing at the Image Awards with Jesse and Chante in 1999. In 1997 and 1999, LT also toured with Japanese superstar Namie Amuro; in a band that included Carlos Rios and Sheila E.
Currently, LT can be found composing for Film and TV, and working on the highly anticipated follow-up to PULSE. Look for the upcoming release, "Sum Blues", featuring Angela Carole Brown on vocals.
