Details:
Lita Gray, based out of Melbourne, FL was formed in late 1999 with Kevin (guitar, vocals) being the founding member. Stuart (guitar), Wayne (drums), and Shawn(bass) joined to make the line-up complete. Lita Gray is a band that plays with lots of energy and emotion. Their live shows always impress and leave crowds yearning for more. The band has developed a large following at local venues and has also earned a national fan base. From 1999 through 2001 Lita Gray proved themselves by playing shows all over Florida. Then in the summer of 2002 Lita Gray decided that it was time to show the rest of the country what all the hype is about. Since the summer of 2002 the band has continued to tour relentlessly playing shows stretching from the east coast all the way to the west coast. Lita Gray has shared the stage with numerous national touring bands such as Fallout Boy,Bayside, Count The Stars, Unsung Zeros, Park, Punchline, Bayside, The Little, As Friends Rust, Fall Silent, Spitvalves, Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start, Uphill Battle, and My Hotel Year. Besides, the tour the band averages 3 or 4 local shows a month. The band has experience playing shows with very large crowds after headlining the Brevard Teen Fest 2003 and the Melbourne Art Fest. Both shows had crowds of 1500+.
The band plays a blend of melodic pop-punk with lyrics pertaining to lost love, growing up, and life in general. In 2001 the band released a 6 song EP CD that sold all 300 copies in its first 6 months. The CD had no promotion or label backing it what so ever. With the completion of their highly anticipated follow-up album “One Day It Will All Make Sense” the band has been receiving rave reviews from regional music critics. The new full-length album features a matured sound and a perfect blend of pop-punk melody and heart-felt lyrics. Compared to bands like New Found Glory and the Ataris, Lita Gray has a sound that is familiar yet new.
Lita Gray is no stranger to adversity. In the late spring of 2003 the band had to deal with the temporary loss of the heart and soul of the band Shawn Goree (bass). Goree had a bout with viral pneumonia that hospitalized him for over 2 months. Shawn had a muscle in his heart that was severely damaged by the pneumonia. He had to receive a heart transplant. This was serious news to the band and its future, but most importantly the future of Shawn who was only 21. The band staged a local benefit show that drew in a crowd in excess of 400 people. With the help of touring bands like Count The Stars (Victory Records) and Fallout Boy the show was a huge success. The band raised over $3000 to help Shawn’s cause. After successful surgery and rehabilitation Shawn has returned to the lineup. The band’s first show back with Goree was on August 23 at the Brevard Teen Fest 2003 in which they headlined the event that catered to a crowd of over 2000.
Lita Gray’s story continues to grow more interesting every day. The band plans to team up with the Built On Strength Records team and White Star Records Now the band has some new help with an amazing roster of bands that will appeal to a diverse crowd of fans. The work ethic and D.I.Y. attitude of the band along with their music and live performance has garnered the respect from many people in the music community. The future is looking very bright indeed for this young and talented band.
