Lightning strikes! Bright, energizing, and powerful are words that describe Luke Lehman. Jack-of-all-trades and master of many, his diverse creative talents have produced a wealth of musical and literary accomplishments, culminating in his masterpiece, PRIME.
Luke’s musical career began at age 7 with his first live performance in his family’s Dixieland band, and continued for six years as clarinet and saxophone player with “Hal and the Kids”.
As he matured, he discovered his unique voice could best be expressed through narrative. His interest in writing led him to a achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature and Creative Writing from the College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara. From there he went on to write five screenplays, along with a number of children’s stories. After finishing his first novel, Hit Me with Music, (written after the free spirited Lukester dropped out of the MFA program in creative writing at the University of Massachusetts), he was inspired to return to live music. Luke then began playing saxophone in several bands, while teaching himself to play guitar.
After a few years on the east coast, Luke landed in Santa Cruz in 1996, and began writing songs, including “Escalona Drive,” and “Downtown Santa Cruz,” the genesis of PRIME, THE ROCK MUSICAL, which premiered April 28 & 29th, 2006, at the Pacific Cultural Center in Santa Cruz, as a full-fledged, multimedia theatrical production. Using all Santa Cruz-based actors and musicians, Luke launched the production in Hollywood for a 4-week run in June, 2006, at the El Portal theatre.
In addition to gearing up for PRIME, Luke has been busy in the studio, writing and recording songs for his next CD, entitled “Goin’ for a Ride”, which is scheduled to be released in October, 2006.
Truly a renaissance man, Luke is self-employed, self-actualized, and self-assured. He is a man with vision and heart, who embraces everything he does with passion and enthusiasm, and joyously encourages everyone else to come along for the ride. Are you PRIME?
As for the future… They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway!
