JAZZ: World Fusion, NEW AGE: New Age
Details:
It''s an old metaphor, fine wine mellows with age. In the case of the El Paso group, Four Corners, the music is becoming more adventurous, more mature, more enjoyable. Not that their initial album was tedius; far from it. That album laid out the foundation for their second outing. Aaron Goldfarb, Mike Kelly, Greg Leeah, and Paul Deemer have added some more punch to the ensemble, now an octet featuring veteran trumpeter Ken Capshaw,jazz-saxophonist Nick Flood, keyboardist Nate Shocker, and clarinetist Julia Georges (who should cut her own CD, she''s that good!).
Each of the seven compositions are great as standalone songs, but taken together, they seem to comprise a subtle body of work dedicated to the easy life of adolescence away from the tedium and struggle of daily high school life, in the transition before young adulthood. My faves: "Gumby", and "Late Light."
