Zimmerman and Zepeda grew up in Laguna Beach California. At the time of this recording in 1995, they had been playing off and on for years.
I am sad to say that as of August 11, 2001, Alex Zepeda is no longer with us. He was a truely amazing saxophonist, overall musician and spirit.
Duets Volume I and II is a good example of his work on both alto and soprano saxophones. He is also featured on the Quartet 96 album (which is the most recent release by Fredric Zimmerman). All of these albums should be available on https://www.tradebit.com in the near future.
