Susanna has this ease about her on stage. Her presence is comfortable and
she makes you feel that way too. Her voice is indescribable. It''s as

Flamenco Caravan
Group Biography

Legend says that “flamenco” started in India many centuries ago. It traveled through Northern Africa carried by the nomads and finally settled in what is now Andalusia, Spain. Through its journey it absorbed elements of many cultures including Arabic Chants, Indian rhythms, Jewish forms as well as a myriad of smaller lesser-known forms to develop into what we now know as “flamenco”.

Flamenco Caravan, while being true to its flamenco forms, continues the journey of adaptation, absorbing the influences of the new world. Blending the musicians’ favorite musical influences of flamenco, Latin, jazz, rock, sacred and blues, the band captures the imagination of the soul through guitar and song. The music is strong and sometimes austere, but also joyous and flamboyant. Once you have come to know the music of Flamenco Caravan you will not likely mistake it for anything else!

Formed in 1999, Flamenco Caravan is made up of a core group consisting of Esteban Figueroa on lead guitar, Susanna DiGiuseppe on keyboards and vocals and Tony Agostino on rhythm guitar and backup vocals. Often key musicians on drums, percussion, bass, trumpet and violin add to the group.

The group has opened for acts such as Colin James, Jeff Healey, Paul Shaffer and America just to name a few, and have performed at the Red Rock Folk Festival and Summer in the Park concerts. Flamenco Caravan has also been featured on CBC radio, Lakehead University radio and Winnipeg University radio.

In 2005 Flamenco Caravan recorded “Love’s Philosophy” and launched the CD on October 7th at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium to an overwhelming crowd of 900 people. General Manager of the auditorium, Bob Halverson, commented, “That, in my mind, was on of the finest shows I’ve ever seen in that building, you expect someone on the international stage to be good but when you find someone in Thunder Bay who is as good or better, that ices it for you.”

The group is looking forward to performing at local venues that continue to have requests for their return, continuing to building up their home town following. Flamenco Caravan are also excited to perform in venues outside of Thunder Bay, having been asked to return for the Red Rock Folk Festival, and venturing south to the Mill Race Folk Festival in Cambridge, Ontario and Summerfolk in Owen Sound, Ontario.

Home town or otherwise, audience members of different ages and musical tastes all have one thing in common, they begin swaying in their seats and tapping their toes as soon as Flamenco Caravan starts playing.
