Biography of The Flight Station
The best way to describe The Flight Station is by thinking of what you might listen to going down a long country road where the sun is so bright that it warms every part of your heart. Most of their sound comes from a focus on what comes naturally from the mind and soul. When writing they try to mix clever guitar interplay with a brightly colored melodic theme. Lyrically, they try to pull at you from every direction. They show you all sides from the happy, up-tempo “California” to the emotive, more laid back sound of “Days Left Behind.” Corey Moore tries to write from an honest perspective that leads him to tell all about lost love, insecurity, and the disappointment of not fitting in where they live.
With the release of their highly anticipated Ep, Falling Star, in July of 06’, there came a fresh, new outlook on the bands’ future as a whole. With the addition of Josh Roaden on bass came a bright new day for the 21 year olds that had endured such long faces for several months. With a lot of work under their belts and a lot more ahead of them as well, they are back to the unified group they had always thrived in being. They have become very dominant in their live shows which they pack full of energy and overwhelming awe. Alex Wheatley states, “We love to show people how excited we are just to play for them, and its even better when they respond with the same energy and vigor that we love to shell out.”
“The Flight Station was not a name thought up over one night,” Powell says. The name actually came from a small employee store at the CVG airport. The change from Seven Circles, the pop/metal sound that they started with, was a long time coming, but the guys could not think of a name to represent their musical transformation. Finally, the tale goes, that one day while at work the two Coreys and Alex all headed to this tiny store they had heard about to pick us some new gear. While discussing the name problem on the way, they approached the large cement letters that hung on the wall in front of the tiny employee store. After pausing for a moment with empty stares at each other, it was decided without even a word that this would be their new name, The Flight Station. These small town kids took their name from a small store to unveil what has proven to be a huge sound that is engaging listeners everywhere. They ask only that you give their music a chance and that if worse comes to worst then “why can’t we all just be friends,” they all joke.
