MP3 The Funkdawgs - A Dawg's Life

Eclectic blend of instrumental jazz, fusion, funk and blues

14 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Jazz Fusion, JAZZ: Bebop

Details:
After five years as the world’s first virtual jazz-funk band, the Funkdawgs celebrate their historic first face-to-face meeting this past spring with their third independent album release entitled "A Dawg’s Life".

For the musically creative and technically innovative Funkdawgs, the eclectic mix of A Dawg’s Life is also breaking down traditional album content with its mix of virtual and live material. It’s a tasty, satisfying combination of eight new virtual tracks created via Internet wav files, a live studio track performed during rehearsals in Nashville and five live concert tracks from their historic first gig in April, 2006.

The live concert at Nashville’s famous Gibson Showcase was the ultimate reason for the Funkdawgs finally getting together. It proved to be a unique opportunity for the band to rehearse and play together in concert for the very first time. New arrangements were created for songs from their first two albums and the results were captured live.

A Dawg’s Life delivers an abundance of energy, originality and spicy jazz-funk that boldly continues the band’s exploration of today’s exciting world jazz scene. Influences range from funk to blues to R & B to fusion to acid and Latin jazz. These varied grooves stimulate passionate performances that reflect the maturity of these five talented musicians from around the planet.

After years of creating in isolation, the magical Nashville experience has expanded the channels of friendship and musical exploration even further for the ‘Dawgs. Fresh tracks, new arrangements and passionate playing. All captured on one truly breakthrough album.

So ... here''s another review by the funk-a-delic reviewer par excellence, Rambro, from the Incognito forum:

Well an expected package unexpectedly showed up in my mailbox last week (expected because I was told by a certain Canuck that he''d try and get it to me when it was available...unexpected...er, because I''m old now and I forgot all about it!

So here I am talking about my favorite internet band (and the only one I know of), the Funkdawgs and their latest offering of Southern-Fried Funk, A Dawg''s Life.

What this disc has to offer you is 14 tracks of good sounds, sounds that go from funky to bluesy to easy-going...for a minute at least!

The tracks are separated in to 3 groups:
Virtual Tracks - 1 thru 8
Live In Studio - 9
Live In Concert - 10 thru 14.

The sonic quality is top notch on all segments (I still can''t get over the fact that these guys do most of this stuff via the internet). Tracks that immediately stand out (no diss to the other tracks, all are superb) are the opening track, Find Your Groove Thing; Mr. Moto''s Day Off; Dawgmentation (with its shades of vintage Sanborn); Outta Here (with some nice Hammond sounding organ work featured); Boogie 2 Shoes (little rock n roll fused into this one); All Blues - the in studio track and BeeHive (live in concert track).

Some fine musicianship is on display with some hot solos and tight ensemble work from the band.

Parts of songs are reminiscent of other artists (old Jazz Crusaders, the aforementioned Sanborn...Jimmy Smith to name but three)...but the gumbo turns out to be all Funkdawgs.

Bon apetit

(Thanks again Stephen)

Peace
RAMBRO
