The current lineup of the Crafties, Gerard McHugh (previously of Michelle Malone and Drag the River), Candi Jiosne (Viva la Diva, Group Sex), Brett Norton (Catbird Seat, Sugarland), Allen Broyles (Josh Joplin Group) barely tolerate each other, but have little else to do on Wednesdays. With all the musical moxie that can be summoned in the middle of the week before 10 pm, the newly constituted Crafties truly define the leading edge of the hard-to-define sound of their own playing. Fronted by Gerard McHugh, a fixture of the Atlanta acoustic scene, the addition of the rest of The Crafties saves an otherwise brilliant songwriter from the bland, gruel-stoked morass of coffee shop and vfw gigs. As individual musicians, they have recorded a cornucopia of CDs and have shared the stage with the likes of Jackson Brown, Indigo Girls, Cake, Jeff Tweety, and Matthew Sweet. As a group they havent done much of anything yet although they hope to change this with the release of their new CD! "Palace Fool" was recorded and produced by resident genius, Rob Gal, over a 13 month period. The result is an ecletic mix of songs heavily influenced by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. The title of the album is loosly taken from his short story "Hop-Frog or the Eight Chained Ourang-Outangs" as well as the songs "Hopfrog" and "Trippetta''s Theme". Overall the CD is a diverse and refreshing take on indie/alt-pop music.
