Covert Operations is a collective of six of the finest musicians Michigan has to offer, with 4/6 of the members from Flint, MI. Offering up their FunkyBluegrassRockRegaeeGospelJazzyJams.... no two Covert Operations shows are the same. Whether drawing from the wide variety of originals to the covers that bring you back to that time on tour or the songs you know you have heard before but you can never think of the name, there is no substitute for seeing Covert Operations live. They use keyboards and organ, percussion and drums, funky bass lines, and dueling guitar trickery to fuel the fire. Boogy shoes required because no feet stand still on the dance floor.
The band is centered around a three brother core consisting of Derek, Damon and Kedree Young. The brothers grew up on Covert Rd. (hence the name) and grew up gospel! Drawing largely on that three part gospel harmony, they bring a refreshing change from the vocally challenged bands of yesterday. All three brothers play multiple instruments too, so it''s not suprising to see them change things up from time to time. On bass guitar, Alastair Nix is the "theory guy" with impecable talent and grooves. Can you say freight train? Because his cabinet with eight 10" speakers will move you! Marc Dixon is the youngest of the troops but possibly the most accomplished, having started out gigging with his father''s band at the age of twelve. Having many names to help associate with his many sides, Darc Mixon is a force, and he wants you to come to the dark side. Dallas Barr is as crazy as his fingers, step right up to the Sallad Barr and he''ll prepare a plate full of sensory delight. At the end of the night Dallas has nothing left to give except warm smiles and big hugs.
Covert Operations gear is all pro and their sound is unique and unmistakable. Their first album (self titled) was completed the Summer of 2005 right before they played at the amazing 10,000 Lakes Music Festival in Minnesota. They really enjoyed sharing the festival with amazing act''s like Trey, Les Claypool, Widespread, Buckethead and Cyro Baptista!
