FLUTIST- CORNSMOKE

Gary "Cornsmoke" LaCorte is a professional performing-recording artist on the Native American flutes, traveling extensively, Maine to Florida, New York to California, doing performing and making appearances for a variety of functions and festivals from Weddings to Funerals, Dinner Restaurants to Powwows, etc. catering especially to the disabled, handicapped, institutionalized, incarcerated people who have less choices in life.

Considering music to be a "real" force, able to transport the listener into alternative states of consciousness. Cornsmoke carefully structures his compositions to allow this to happen, if the listener wishes and is able to do so. The dead space between the notes being as important as the notes themselves. The structure of the composition is what lends it power. Where lyrics tend to lend a message to the music, pure musical compositions afford the listener less complications for the journey. Thats what makes the Native American flute work so well in soothing tension and relieving stress. The fact that its a harmonic instrument is what makes a melody. The most simplistic form of music are melodies. Anything else becomes more and more complicated until it looses all of its real medicinal effects. The spirit being a delicate fabric, one should be careful as to what types of vibrations they subject it to. You are what you listen to. After all, what purpose does music serve? If not food for the spirit.

LaCorte, known as "Cornsmoke" from his days of being the one to roast corn as a food vendor at the powwows mainly in Florida, has been playing the flute professionally since 1995. Now residing peacefully, with his family on a forty acre farm in the mountains of southwest Pennsylvania. ........The Author.

"Comet Tales" is Cornsmoke''s fourth release. His last outing was a dynamic tribute to our Veterans called "Freedom Saviors". Although I still believe that "Saviors" is his best album to date, "Comet Tales" is an excellent follow-up and I''ll tell you why!

The first reason why I think it is so good, is because it is nothing like "Saviors". It has its own theme and musical expression. Reason no. 2 is that LaCorte has incorporated an acoustic guitar (provided by Mr. Steve Brown) into this album, which creates a completely different musical tembre and backdrop for his flute playing, and last, but not least (Reason no. 3), is that LaCorte''s flute playing is better than ever in this new format!

The truth is, they are both great albums in their own right. Due to the subject matter on "Freedom Saviors", the music is more emotive and more heavily layered. "Comet Tales" has a much lighter feeling and is probably a lot closer to LaCorte''s first and second releases, ("Sounds of the Heart" & "Good Medicine")Wonderful titles, like "Marella" (the opening cut), and "Feast of the Mammoth Hunters" act on the listener, generating an almost irresistible fascination with the total quality of LaCorte''s flute, while not separating it from the overall composition. Amazing stuff!

Additionally, "Cornsmoke Fever" and "Ol'' Coyote Blues", while more contemporary in nature, contribute to the general sense of the cosmic splendor of this CD. Gary "Cornsmoke" LaCorte is a very talented flute player, and his album "Comet Tales" is a very smart addition to his already impressive list of recordings!

"Comet Tales" contains a very lean package of information on the album jacket, but then, that is always the case with a Cornsmoke release. "The music is what''s important!" And you know what? He''s right!
