MP3 Confunktion Junction - URBAN/R&B: Funk

From the smooth, soulful vocals of Cid Williams to the tight but loose horns, you can''t help but smile, groove & move to the debut EP from this NYC based funk group. Delivering fat grooves along with the side-dishes of soul and sass, it rocks.

7 MP3 Songs
URBAN/R&B: Funk, ROCK: Funk Rock

Details:
Confunktion Junction was formed on March 17, 2001. The name started as a joke after weeks of arguing about what they would be called, and eventually stuck. After a few line-up alterations, they recorded their debut EP. The group plays on a part-time basis in the NYC area. They now have what one member has called the "ultimate line-up" of musicianship and personality. Their live act mixes originals and covers but the group hopes to fill out their 2-3 hour sets with all original material soon. Keep your eyes and ears open for the next Confunktion Junction release in the future! Below is some brief info on the individual members. Don''t forget to visit https://www.tradebit.com.

Satish: Trumpet, percussion
Resides: Brooklyn, NY

Satish has been listening to South Indian classical music since he was in the womb. So of course, once he came out, he decided to study biology. He went as far as to join a Ph.D. program in Madison, but after 2 Wisconsin winters, he quit school and moved to New York City to be a jazz trumpet player. He quickly realized that jazz sucks, or at least that there''s no future in bebop, so he started a jazz-funk-Indian classical fusion band called Indofunk. He also got sick of only having 3 valves on the trumpet (every other instrument has a lot more keys/strings/skins to play with), so he bought a special combination valve/slide trumpet with which he can accurately render Indian classical gamakas (slides, shakes, and other ornaments).
What does this have to do with Confunktion Junction? Well, seeing as Satish is an accomplished trumpet player and loves funk, he fit right into CJ''s horn section. Oh, it also had to do with a chance meeting on a subway car after a NYC anti-war rally...

The 3 greatest records of all time (Western music):

Michael Jackson - Off the Wall
Miles Davis - The Complete Plugged Nickel Sessions
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life

Joe Kelly: Drums, vocals
Resides: Marlton, NJ
Joe has been playing drums since age 8. He has played in several bands over the years (including a few with other Junction members) ranging in style from big band to progressive rock. He is one of the founding members of Confunktion Junction. After spending two years at Berklee College of Music he returned to his hometown of Syracuse, NY and received his degree from Syracuse University.
Although holding down a full time job, music is his primary passion. His music collection consists of a vast array of styles. Chopin, Miles, Led Zeppelin, Zappa, Holly Cole, Yes, and of course Kool and The Gang are some examples of this diversity (much of which is on vinyl).
"Music has the ability to reach all people. It has the ultimate power of sending an internal message that cannot be equalled by any other human endeavor. I have been blessed to make music with the others on this list."

Pete Lyons: Alto & Soprano Sax, Flute, Percussion

Resides: Union, NJ
Pete started playing sax in public school in New Jersey, and became more involved each year, participating in the Grammy All-Star High School Jazz Band and the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory division before heading off to study at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio.

At Oberlin, Pete studied classical saxophone primarily, but was active in the jazz ensembles and classes as well. He took advantage of the Computer Science courses offerred at the college, in hope of graduating with a marketable skill of some sort.

Since graduating, Pete has been working in Manhattan as a programmer. He joined Confunktion Junction in October 2002, and plays in a few other groups as well when he''s not writing code.

He likes skiing, inline skating, tennis, frisbee, and running. He''s inexplicably fascinated with the music of Queen.

He is the shortest member of the band.

Tony Magrogan: Bass, vocals

Resides: Philadelphia, PA

Tony took three guitar lessons and hated them because "they were a waste of time and money so I quit." Instead, he learned by listening to the radio and by listening to records, and by playing along with any instrument he could find. The result is a musician who is well versed not only in bass, but guitar, keys, and oboe as well.

He cites Yoko Ono as an influence: "Once I heard her sing, I knew I never wanted to sound like her."

Tony has been playing in bands with Will, Joe, and Bo since 1989, including the Oswego, NY-based Genesis cover band Principia.

He has lived in Oakland, CA, Pearl Harbor, HI, Sterling, VA, Burnsville, MN, Binghamton, NY, and Syracuse, NY, before shipping off to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. After graduation, he spent several years as an officer aboard the submarine U.S.S. Pittsburgh. He currently resides in Philadelphia and goes to school at Wharton where he is learning how to add and subtract money.

"Music is the art of pulling emotions out of people."

Charlie Post: Tenor Sax, Flute, Percussion

Resides: Brooklyn, NY

Charlie is an "Upstater" like Joe, Bo, and Will, and is originally from Schenectady, NY. He holds three undergraduate music degrees from Schenectady County Community College and SUNY Fredonia in Music/Business, Applied Music (Saxophone) and Sound Recording Technology. Throughout his academic career he kept busy playing in wind ensembles, jazz ensembles, saxophone orchestra & quartets, made apperearances with symphony and chamber orchestras and even sang bass in chorus. Occasionally, he attended class.

He claims to play clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass saxophones, and flute. We''ve only ever seen him play tenor sax, but we believe him anyway.

Charlie currently lives and works in NYC as a Booking Manager at The Hit Factory recording studios. He also does some freelance engineering around town. You might see him out and about in NYC enjoying a pint of Guinness at performance halls and jazz clubs, and of course on stage playing tenor sax with the Junction.

He is the tallest member of the band.

Will Sakran: Guitar

Resides: Brooklyn, NY

Will was born and bred in Syracuse, New York and began his musical career 17 years ago with a chintzy $10 garage-sale-special classical guitar bought for him by his brother Dave. Four years of formal lessons ensued, focusing at first on classical guitar and eventually rock/improvisation. It wasn''t long before he was creating quite a din with Joe in the band Fiction.

He lived in Rochester, NY for six years while attending the Rochester Institute of Technology, all the while playing in the Genesis cover band Principia (which would eventually include Junction members Joe and Tony). After completing his degree in electrical engineering he moved back to Syracuse and was involved in a nifty jazz/rock group which, for the sake of saving a ten-minute explanation, we will simply call "MZ".

In the fall of 1998 he began traveling to NYC every few weekends or so to visit friends and chase after hip, trendy girls. During the spring of 2001 he began playing in Confunktion Junction, which added even more time on the road and away from home. The time spent traveling to New York was getting a little out of hand, so in March of 2002 he packed up and moved to Brooklyn.

Will also plays bass, keys, and a little bit of flute, but only ever claims to be a guitarist. He is neither the tallest nor the shortest member of the band.

Cid Williams: Lead Vocal

Resides: Brooklyn, NY

Cid Williams is a versatile and experienced singer/songwriter whose time has come.

Recognized for his seductively smooth tones, and strong, funky R&B riffs, Cid incorporates elements of gospel, Funk and R&B. He interjects his performances with deep soulful, wild moans and wails. Yet, his recordings are clear, stylish and smooth, boasting funk licks and productions that roll along with tight horns, rockin'' guitar licks and fat bass lines.

Cid is known as the Lead Vocalist of the New York-based band Confunktion Junction (https://www.tradebit.com). He is a talented songwriter with the ability to write songs that provide, in a secular format, the depth of the most heartfelt soul and rhythm of Gospel music, while keeping the message simple, funky and light. He is a remarkable song stylist who strives to define (or redefine) nearly every song he touches.

Singing at a very young age, Cid was raised in the bluesy, ghetto South Side streets of Chicago. Although Cid was not reared in the church, it had a profound effect on his spiritual and musical development aided through his uncle Robert, a minister, Choir director and professional organist.

In 1992, Cid (a Gulf War veteran,) left the Air Force to pursue his passion for working with children by finishing a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in drama from the University of Illinois -Chicago. Additionally, he holds an M.A. in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA, and an Advanced M.A. in Educational Administration from New York University in New York City, NY.

Recently, Cid has walked away from his career in teaching to pursue his singing career fulltime, his truest, deepest passion. As a singer/songwriter, his mission is to creatively interpret the human experience and spread hope, peace, love, joy and happiness through his gifts of voice and song to all the people that cross his life path.
