Details:
Inundated Music is proud to announce the release of "Thirds... & More" by artist Tom Coerver & Goin'' South. This album features 10 original tunes and 6 covers of energetic roots, rock and blues music from planet Louisiana and beyond. This time around, Tom joins with Bill Doran on bass guitar & harmony vocals and Keith Simoneaux on drums & harmony vocals to get Goin'' South with some more scorchin'' slide guitar, swamp howlin'', and some stompin''"down-south jukin''" grooves. Bill and Keith bring a few more flavors to Tom''s gumbo with their background in jazz drumming, upright rockabilly thumpin'' bass, and everything musically from 50''s Sun Americana to British Invasion harmonies to jazz improvisation that makes the sound deeper and wider while still keeping the format to a trio or just a little "cheating" with Tom overdubbing some vintage Hammond C3 organ or honkin'' piano on the songs that begged for a little keyboard seasoning. Tom follows up his two prior "one man band" solo records (2003''s "Backwater Tales" and 2005''s "Waterfront View") with six of sixteen tracks here in the "Tom plays all drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, and sings all" format again - he tends to write songs and record at odd times of day and night while the others sleep, eat or work.
Tom''s teen years were filled with garage bands and broken turntables while learning licks from the Allmans, Creedence, ZZ Top, Johnny Winter, Skynyrd and Eric Clapton. With all this music and motivation at his disposal, Tom landed gigs as a guitarist, drummer, and keyboard player in various bands in Louisiana and Texas. While gigging in Florida, he joined with Bobby Ingram (now with Molly Hatchet) and the group landed a major label recording deal. Six years of songwriting, recording, and arena gigs (with Rossington-Collins Band, Johnny Van Zant Band, Molly Hatchet, etc.) resulted in the album "China Sky" and significant airplay.
With that experience under his belt, and a stack of songs piling up, he put together a recording and mastering studio while producing, engineering, and playing with Louisiana notables such as Tab Benoit, Henry Gray (of Howlin'' Wolf fame), Chris Thomas King, Rockin'' Tabby Thomas, Burton Gaar, Larry Garner, the Delta Rockets, and John Lisi. These lineups took him to the stages of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Monterey Blues Festival, and numerous theatre and club dates. In other words, Tom never put away his guitar and pen!
All three CDs showcase Tom''s roots, blues, and Southern Rock style with "lyrical slide guitar, intelligent lines, excellent phrasing, strong vibrato, ripping pentatonic flurries, and some "adult" chords thrown in for good measure" as Mike Varney of Shrapnel, Blues Bureau, and Tone Center Records raved in his feature of Tom in the July 2005 Spotlight column in Guitar Player Magazine. Gritz Magazine pegged Tom''s style as "Mountain meets Gov''t Mule... fresh Southern grown rock" while Offbeat Magazine says "reward your inner redneck... an amped up boogie generator" and others note the wide variety of influences from old blues to new jazz to all the rest noted above to make the Roux in this gumbo.
