Details:
This album is the culmination of almost ten years collaboration. Preceded by several other album releases in an "un-plugged" format, Homegrown breaks this mold by going full production. Most of the tracks are recent compositions, along with a few of the groups standards and were all recorded along with percussion (something lacking in earlier releases) and multiple instrumentation. While considered steps forward in production, the honest lyrics still remain the constant throughout all their material and performances.

John Powers(ASCAP), began his songwriting/musician career in gospel bands where he wrote, sang and played bass and guitar. He later joined the band Renaissance where he was introduced to Brett O''Daniel. In 1996 he and Brett founded the band Common Quest in which they collaborate on material. While John claims his strongest suit is in songwriting, he does work at the bass, guitar and keyboards. "I love writing songs. I believe the most interesting ones come from events of every day life. I think they''re fun to write and offer the listener a topic to which they can relate. Sometimes I''ll take a familiar phrase and twist it around, giving it a new perspective. My playing is more of an extension from the writing rather than true musicianship. I''m working on it though and should have it down pat in 19 or 20 years!" John''s musical influences are widespread. Big band, classical, rock, country and gospel have all impacted on his writing style. He and wife Jan, have five children and four grandchildren.

Brett N. O''Daniel(ASCAP), has been playing for over twenty years in areas ranging from rock to metal and country to pop. His true calling always led him back to his roots with the likes of John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and others. Brett has always had an inherent love for music. His great-grandmother received a double major in art and music and performed with many stars of yesteryear as they toured through this area. His mother played piano and would encourage him to sing along with her as she played it. Brett was a member of a gospel choir in junior high and concert choir in high school, where he received several awards in state and local vocal competitions. At the same time he began fronting for bands (mostly hard rock and metal) and started learning guitar. After a few lessons he took it upon himself to learn the instrument. Over the years Brett has been fortunate to not only meet but befriend some of the people who were an influence on him including some members of the Mellencamp band. He has also had the privilege of performing and working with names such as Moe Z M.D. and John Gunnel (John Mellencamp Band), Jimmy Ryser (Jimmy Ryser, Mellencamp organization) and Dweezil Zappa. Although Brett has worked with many bands and artists, Common Quest would be his legacy. After meeting John Powers in an earlier project, the two became the most unlikely duo, making the music of Common Quest what it is ... real! "John is the perfect balance of me musically. He keeps me grounded when I start overdoing it," Brett said. " Who would have thought that two guys with completely different backgrounds could come together and make music as great as this!"
