COLORES DEL ALMA
(Excerpt from El Hispanic News, by Julie Cortez)
The musical journey for one member of Colores del Alma began in Los Angeles with classical training on the violin and piano. For another, a native of South Texas, music filled the gene pool, bubbling up in a Mariachi uncle, a drum-playing brother, cousins in Tejano bands and a mother and sister who loved to sing.
The two people who make up Colores del Alma – Arturo Viloria, guitar, violin and percussion, and Jobé, rhythm guitar – may have wildly differing backgrounds but they do share some serious musical chops.
Joining forces last summer, Colores del Alma explores the sounds of “Nuevo Flamenco”, which holds on to much of the Spanish influence and “fiery rhythms” of Flamenco roots, but is less structured and uses simpler chord progressions. Says Viloria, “Given all the musical training, I realized that this is what it’s all about – brining different entities together and having one thing come out. It’s like a tapestry. We have our own colors of threads that we weave together and what comes out is a beautiful picture.”
Inspired by a mixture of classical, modern and traditional Flamenco music, Arturo Viloria brings his past and present multi-instrumental talents to shape the melodic sounds of
Colores del Alma.
Jobé blends his songwriting talents, and his contemporary Nuevo Flamenco guitar to provide the rhythmic structure.
