"I fell into one of her low alto tones and never came up for air. As if her lustrous singing wasn''t reason enough to mail her Valentines, the melody, production and rhythms are simply divine." ~ Robert Oermann, Music Row Magazine review

ABOUT THE ALBUM:
"Hometown Beauty Queen" is a blend of country, folk, and pop. All songs written by Jo Anne Kurman and her co-writers Barbara Borax, Sandy Sherman and Craig Lackey. Jo Anne and Sandy Sherman uplift us with “Wind In My Sails,” a song about never giving up on yourself. The songwriting team also penned “Long White Gown,” a song written about the legendary female ghost who haunts the Palos Verdes, California, Point Vicente Lighthouse: “Some folks say they’ve seen her there.”

In the title track, “Hometown Beauty Queen,” Jo Anne sings about her experience as a teenage beauty queen and how it felt for an insecure eighteen year old to have her body judged by a panel of middle aged men, all the while smiling big. Fun, whimsical "Only Heaven Knows" and the sexy blues song "Guitar Woman" will get you swaying to the music.

Jo Anne’s debut album is a lifetime in coming and well worth the wait. You can also find her CD, “500 Miles”, a folk tribute album with beloved songs from the 60s and 70s, and her just released country CD,"Countrified", also posted on https://www.tradebit.com.

SOME COOL STUFF:
Jo Anne has been singing and playing the guitar throughout the Los Angeles area for most of her life. At sixteen, she played her first music job at Disneyland with her band, The Fourmost, in a show called Hootenanny Nights where they shared the bill with a skinny young singer named Hoyt Axton.

Her diverse musical adventures ranges from playing in a bluegrass band in Montie Montana Jr.’s Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in Jakarta, Indonesia, to singing backup for Iron Butterfly in the “20 Years After: Woodstock Reunion Concert.” Jo Anne was chosen by BMI in 1995, as one of the top upcoming country songwriters in Los Angeles. She coauthored songs with Randy Pugh and Ron Guffnet that charted in the top ten of the Top 100 Country Hits across Europe. Nashville’s prestigious Music Row Magazine’s honored Jo Anne with the Discovery Award for her CD "Hometown Beauty Queen" (also posted on cdbaby). She has performed as the opening act for Billy Preston, Sawyer Brown, and Lee Greenwood, and has sung on many radio and television commercials. In 2007, Jo Anne kicked off her music-producing career with Al Timss’s jazz CD "Last Call."

Jo Anne graduated cum laude from Long Beach State University with a BA in Theater Arts. She cofounded the Burbage Theater in Hermosa Beach, California, where she acted and musical-directed a number of plays and musicals and received a Drama-Logue Award for Most Outstanding Performance. Currently airing on TV, you can see Jo Anne in a Home Depot commercial!

One of her most recent bookings was at the beautiful Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach, California, where she performed a single act.
