Tim Miner and Eric Mains met at Iowa State University. Living on the same dorm floor Eric was walking by Tim in the hall as guitar was blasting from a room. Tim was on his wireless. Eric had mentioned being in a band and said he would bring equipment from home. After several times home Eric didn''t show signs of interest. Then the day came. Eric and Tim jammed ever since. They were in several bands together. (Risk, Naked Pancake, Slow Children) After the cover band thing wore off Tim and Eric both had material to put on a cd.
Tim''s next door neighbor and friend (Rick) had a brother who played drums. Tim asked Rick to see if brother Gary would want to jam. Things went well.
Eric created the name. We couldn''t come up with a good name that all could agree on. Eric said we are nothing but MERE CIVILIANS! It stuck like glue. After checking around we hadn''t seen the name as a band anywhere. (EVEN ON THE WEB)
Eric was from Creston, Iowa. Tim was from Avoca, Iowa. Gary was from Churdan, Iowa. They all found refuge in Ames, Iowa.
Eric is now residing in Davenport. Tim is still in Ames. Gary is in Boulder, Colorado.
