After already having a top-ten hit on the national college urban radio charts with her debut single “Can’t Wait,” Lovely Hoffman has firmly established herself and made a major mark on the music scene. Now, in the spring of 2009, Lovely returns to release her follow up single “Light Switch." The simple yet polished arrangement allows for “emotion” and “heartache” to be the main star of the song which chronicles the ups and downs committed relationships. “This is a slow groove for the ladies,” Lovely says “It’s a song that I wrote to express what women go through when their special someone can’t make up their mind, it’s a song to express our frustrations.”
As one of the most prominent new artists yet to emerge, Hoffman writes and produces deeply introspective and inspirational material laced with live instruments and smooth, supple beats. “I feel that my sound is unique and versatile because I look to the origins of all music to get my inspiration. My dad is from Liberia and I was raised listening to him and my uncle play Djembe, the West African family of drums, so I have a deep appreciation and interest in learning about other cultures, which helps me grow as an artist.” Hoffman’s exceptional lyrics coupled with her thick, sandy voice make her sound deliberately modern with an old-school appeal. Her musical projects exude strength, confidence and an uncanny knack for dropping knowledgeable gems disguised in euphoric melodies. “As a kid, adults would tell me that God gave me a voice that I needed to share with the world and I want to use my gift to touch and inspire people, as well as for social change. Growing up in the same neighborhood that raised Malcolm X and welcomed Martin Luther King Jr. into weekly church services created a conscious and political mindset for the young Hoffman who would forever be influenced by the legacy of the Black Power and Civil Rights Movements. Later on in life her academic achievements and scholarships would gain her entrance into the prestigious Boston College. Today the cultured and knowledgeable songstress makes music that you can dance, cry and sing to.
Lovely, the young songstress, has been featured on a bevy of underground mixtapes including that of R&B King DJ Cool Kev and DJ Vlad. Already having major success performing on shows with multi-platinum Def Jam recording artist Ne-yo as well as Lloyd, Jaheim and T-Pain during his two day tour in Boston, Lovely is now positioned as R&B''s Newest Face and is anticipated to carry in new energy, new sound and new style.
