Catharsis, based in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, is a four person rock group featuring piano and guitar. The songs are intense and moody, lush and driving, with a hint of indulgence. Matt Flaherty (vocalist / keyboardist), originally from Montevideo MN, and Matt Lien (guitarist) who both attend college in Minneapolis, formed the band with mutual friends Seth Johnson (bass) from Duluth, and Jaran Sorenson (drums) from Foley, MN. Soon after, they won a Battle of the Bands at the Quest Club, one of the most prominent music venues in the Twin Cities. With the free studio time they earned, the band began recording a five song EP at A440 Studios in Minneapolis. The project, Farewell to Shadowlands, was released in March of the following year. They continue to play around the Twin Cities and in their respective hometowns promoting their album and melting people''s faces off with sweet melody.
