Bloodstone Follies is Cashmere Jungle Lords second full-length CD. It’s been a long time in the making, coming on the heels of the critically acclaimed Southern Barber Supply. The disc was recorded in lots of unusual places: an old bread factory, a defunct karate studio above a dry cleaners run by Asians (is that ironic?), an old manufacturing warehouse in Richmond’s Manchester Warehouse District, as well as lead singer Dominic Carpin’s living room and basement.
Band members ‘Jungle’ Jim Kaylis and bassist John Dacey join in on many of the tracks, but there are also guest appearances on tracks 1, 3, 4, 5, 9 & 13 from acclaimed drummer Johnny Hott (formerly of House of Freaks and Gutterball currently with the Piedmont Souprize and Chez Rouet) and old-gold friend of the band Bryan Martin playing double bass fiddle on track 11, “New York Hugs and Kisses Goodbye”.
The disc is a concept album of sorts, exploring human folly in all its incarnations. It’s a more focused and less eclectic album than Southern Barber Supply or Oodjie-Boodjie Night Night. Songs explore themes such as infatuation, mindless optimism, deep love, the challenge of remaining devoted in the face of temptations, reality vs. illusion, self-deception, joy, loss and life’s absurdities.
