"88 Keys: Piano Music by Carl Schroeder" is a new CD of original piano music composed and performed by Minnesota composer Carl Schroeder (b. 1982).
The album''s highlights include the stirring "Birmingham," composed in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Mississippi River," a lyrical musical reflection on North America''s longest river, "Christine''s Lullaby," an elegy written in honor of Christine Lee Hanson, the youngest 9/11 victim, and the title track, "88 Keys" which uses each of the piano''s 88 keys exactly once.
Schroeder, a 2005 graduate of St. Olaf College, writes music that often connects with American history while also drawing inspiration from everyday surroundings. In 2001 he was named "Composer with Most Potential" by the Minnesota Music Educators Association. His musical influences include film composers John Williams, James Horner and Danny Elfman, pianist David Lanz and contemporary band composers Eric Whitacre and Philip Sparke.
Released in June 2006, "88 Keys" is Schroeder''s second CD of original music released on CDBaby.
