Candy Channel is a different kind of band. From the cover, I was expecting a hard rock or spiritual band (big difference I know). The cover displays a woman''s ass with a guitar barely covering it. However, when playing the music, I can hear hints of Creed in the guitars, a sense of Blondie in the way some of the songs are presented, and even a little of Fiona Apple or Alanis Morisette in terms of depth.
Right from the beginning, I was drawn into the music, which comes from the great work put forth by Duke Ashton on bass, John Harris on lead guitar, keyboards and tambourine, Rob Murray Mason on drums and Sherrie Ashton on both guitar and keyboard. Even more entertaining is the voice of Sherrie Ashton. She has a wonderful, beautiful voice that really delivers the meaning and depth to the songs that are so different from anything I ever heard before.
The first song, Wildflowers is a catchy, something that comes from the great qualities mentioned earlier about this band.
Strangers to every care we''ve ever known/running to meet an eastern rising dawn/bright as the light that I see/shining in your eyes/in twilight skies.
That''s deep and in addition to that, this band is quite intelligent. Words aren''t dumbed down for others and are not thrown together for the sake of throwing words together. Deep in me is a sexy song, created through non-perverse lyrics.
Naked is a new invention/only touching on my intention/needing becomes obsession/and I''m aching for free expression/show me what to do, what to say, what to be/don''t know how to begin, but when it ends/I want to feel you deep in me
This track was very poetic and expressive without having to be lewd and disgusting. Anyone could use smut to sell records. Candy Channel is sexy without exploiting sex. In addition to this, this band is not afraid to experiment with their sound. I hate groups that come out with the same generic music, each song almost sounding like the last. Some are fast, some are slow, some sound old, and some sound new and innovative. They go from a slow melodic Deep in Me song to a faster, up-tempo, still melodic song like Sweet Avenger. Avenger sounds like a cross between Alanis and Natalie Merchant in that it blends the hard sound of revenge with the sweet, soothing voice of Sherrie Ashton.

Candy Channel is a wonderful group of musicians who truly come together and create a great sound only matched by their desire to be different from others. Finally, a group that breaks through the limiting boundaries and understands that music lovers are intelligent and can understand smart lyrics. I was not into this type of music before, but now when I''m switching stations I just may check out the Candy Channel along with all the other music I enjoy. Sweet.
