Tanya Crossman is an Australian singer-songwriter who lives in Beijing. China. Her debut album "Sweet Uncertainty" is a fundraising initiative, supporting her work with expatriate teenagers in Beijing, China.
23 artists contributed their talents to "Sweet Uncertainty", including 16 teenagers Tanya has worked with in Beijing, and other youth workers. The album was recorded on location in Langfang and Beijing, China.
Tanya was born and raised in Sydney, moving to Canberra (her Australian hometown) in 1991. She spent 1996-1997 in Greenwich, CT (USA) and has lived in China for the past 6.5 years. Tanya has worked with youth since 1999. She first started working with TCKs in 2005, a calling that keeps her in Beijing indefinitely.
Tanya has always been passionate about music. She began piano lessons at age 4, not because she wanted to play piano, but because she wanted to compose songs. At 7 she began the flute; at 11 she studied composition with Olle Palmqvist at the Canberra School of Music.
After her first vocal solo aged 4, Tanya sang mostly in choirs until finishing high school. She received little formal vocal training. The foundation of her singing technique was developed in the Woden Valley Youth Choir under Don Whitbread OAM.
