Somewhere, sometime, somehow we all like pop music,
even if it''s that old song in the background of the new soft drink
commercial. There is more to music than that. Pop is pop, but good song
writing is a perfectly mixed Jack and Coke, or a perfectly aged wine.
Good songwriting comes from the heart, not the balance sheet.
Closet Pop Junkies is the musical jones, so to speak, of Detroit native and
Charlotte transplant Anthony ( Tony ) Fisher.
CPJ is his songwriting outlet. A front for his tender, sometimes haunting, songs of personal reflection with mild self judgment sprinkled throughout, yet expressing
a vulnerable inner desire to change and grow spiritually, and as a human
being. Closet Pop Junkies new music collection, Signs ( on Detroit based
/cRUDE/ Records ), includes songs sharing inner self doubt with hope for
redemption, songs expressing joy and reflective fulfillment, as well as
some chronologically dark expressions of a haunting past. Tony Fisher
has invested his inner self into his music, and every track is like a
long lost friend sharing his memories with you at a Saturday night
backyard barbecue over a few beers. The musical performances on the CD
are culled from three sessions over two years in producer Bradford
Johnson''s /cRUDE/ studios, the main studio of CPJ''s label /cRUDE/
Records. Most of the music on the CD was performed by Tony, Bradford, an
drummer/vocalist Robert Myers. The songs are tight musically, yet have a
relaxed vibe, and you can hear the inner most feelings of joy and
apprehension in Tony''s expressive vocal tracks. The focus on every track
is Tony''s lyrics, which seem to all have an underlying theme, yet each
stand alone with exclusive insight into different veins of common human
behavior and experience. The collection as a whole covers a wide range
of human emotion at any one time, sharing and emoting joy, fear, faith,
hope, guilt, and love. From being seventeen in a basement to today ,is a
long, life enhancing journey, well documented on the first release from

Closet POP Junkies offers a very solid line up of extremely talented musicians featuring Tony Fisher (Vocals, Guitars, Harmonica), Bradford Johnson (Guitars, Mandolin, Dobro, Vocals), Robert Myers (Drums, Percussion, Vocals), Douglas Woern (Bass), Paul Moore (Guitar, Slide guitar), Pat Brennan (Piano), Heather Baker and Terri Fisher (vocals, percussion)
Couple these fine musicians with a great group of Solid, Radio friendly music, a blend of monster hooks and fine instrumentation, and this groups signature sound definitely stands out in todays musical sea of sameness. Their debut CD ''SIGNS'' is loaded with songs that are destined to become classics. Mixing Southern Alternative, Rock, Blues, and country with a classic yet new sound, this band is definitely on the rise and worth checking out.
