Confusion In Stereo - Biography

Confusion in Stereo (CIS) is a band from Montreal, whose sound reflects the diversity of their home town. Montreal is a melting pot of different peoples, cultures and is a city immersed completely in all types of art. Thus, CIS credits their unique sound to both their environment and the four creative minds involved in the band.
CIS was formed when Daniel Lajoie (Guitar/Voice) asked Jeremy Weigens (Drums) to join his band "The Alias Zero" back in 1997. Right away they started writing songs together, changed the band name and started experimenting with different styles. Over the years, they continued to develop their songwriting style, and together have written over a hundred songs. They spent most of their time locked in a basement writing and develloping their music, surfacing every once in awhile to do shows, entrancing crowds and winning several Battle of the bands'' together. (Including the Montreal Intercollegiate BOTB in 2001. Also in the same year beating out 182 bands from in and around Montreal to make it into the finals in the Montreal CHOM 97.7 FM L''Esprit competition.) Other members have changed a couple of times over the years, for numerous reasons. "Getting four guys to work really well together with the same level of commitment is one of the hardest things to do these days." Says, Daniel Lajoie. "But I think that part of the game is over now." In 2003 Matthew Ilanzis (Guitar) joined the band after being a fan of their music for years, and hasn''t looked back since. The final touch came when Max Pollack (Bass) joined the band in 2004, after spending years trying to find like minded musicians to work with. Since then their music has evolved in leaps and bounds.
Their sound is a difficult thing to describe. It is a fresh blend of Alt. Rock, Metal, Reggae, drum n'' bass and more... Their songs are all very different, but there is an invisible thread that ties them all together i.e : they are all recognisable as CIS songs. In their music there is something for everyone. For the casual music listener, they have the "singles" 3-4 minute songs with strong choruses and sharp hooks. For the avid music fan they have the more "epic" songs that make for a great album and live show, with intense climaxes and breakdowns. Throughout all of their songs you will hear strong melodies, intense beats, a unique voice, strong musicianship and new ideas that will keep musicians guessing. Each member brings something different to the table. Here is a brief description of what that is:
Jeremy Weigens (Drums) : The scientist. He likes to freak people out by telling them exactly what''s happening in their bodies. He is always looking for the best way to do his hair and/or pick fights with old people who deserve it. A serious metal head. He brings the heavy side to the band. His influences include Lamb of God, The Bled, Killswitch Engage, Deftones, Bob Marley and the Police.
Daniel Lajoie (Guitar/Voice) : The matriarch. He started writing songs when he was nine years old when his aunt died and parents divorced in the same year. Since then he has always used music to cope with life. He started pushing musicians around when he was 13. He enjoys poking dead things with his "special" forks. He has also studied Kung-fu for 13 years, and yes, he can probably kick your ass. He is the melodic voice of the band. His influences include Radiohead, The Beatles, Tom Waits, The Mars Volta, Tool, Deftones and Sublime.
Max Pollack (Bass) : The gentle giant. He always has a thoughtful look on his face. Probably pondering the secrets of the universe. He can bust you in half but prefers to blow you away with his awesome bass skills. His hobbies include, computers, murder and stamp collecting. He spent 3 years studying the bass at Vanier college and brings enthusiasm and his knowlegde of theory to the band. His influences range as far as Bach, Victor Wooten, Jaco, and Stanley Clark to Led Zeplin, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and Steve Vai.
Matthew Ilanzis (Guitar) : The quiet guy. He doesn''t say much, prefering to let his guitar do the talking. Actually this guy creeps me out. Everybody knows it''s just a matter of time before he snaps. And when he does, you''d better not get in his way. He is the Angel of death. Depending on the day, he either brings dark melodies or heavy guitar riffs to the band. His influences include Deftones, Muse, Sublime, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Meshuggah and Tom Waits.
CIS are now looking to break into the industry, because quite frankly they''re sick of working lame jobs and listening to the crap that''s on the radio these days. They are currently seeking management and a record deal. Any other support is most welcome.
