COOL TUNES & FUN sums up the Citykings'' philosophy of life.
The band is the final product of several evolutions of lives, careers, and bands that have brought together four unique and distinct personalities and musical styles. The combination of these four men has produced a very exciting and often spectacular musical experience for audiences in and around the Houston, Texas area. Strong bonds, collective chemistry and musical vision has made the Citykings one of the most original and popular bands in town. With a wealth of original material and a diligent rehearsal and woodshedding schedule, the band has accumulated over 70 original songs, which they rotate in and out of their performances. New songs are always a most welcome challenge for the band to take on. What sets this group apart from so many others is their commitment to originality and musical excellence in an almost totally commercial "cover band" atmosphere. Each Citykings'' performance is an event that follows a concept - an internal dynamic within the performance.

The members of the Citykings are all experienced musicians;
alumni from the area''s top bands of the 70''s, 80''s and 90''s. They may either speak the language of music in theory or communicate their ideas in sounds and rhythms... whichever works best. The name "Citykings" is a combination of two of the band''s former names: The Kingfishers and Big City.

Scott Burman and John Bockelman joined a blues band in 1990
as drummer and bass player, respectively. With Frederick Hall, they played traditional blues for the first 3 years, appearing very successfully as the headliner at numerous Cultural Arts Council and public shows. A gradual turn to original material and newer musical directions produced some personnel changes. Big City then emerged in 1993 with Bob Jackson joining and playing harmonica. Another 2 years of success followed, with the band playing mostly original material in a blues/rock style. Things changed again in 1995, when another personnel shift occurred, leaving the band looking for a bass player. This altered the look and style of the whole picture, with John moving over to guitar. After a succession of nine bass players, many a month went by with just Scott and John jamming on drums and keyboards. Finally, in November 1996, Randolph Arrington showed up for a jam. He was the answer. It clicked from note one and we knew we were back on track. Randolph is from Meridian, Mississippi and had played for years on the Chitlin'' Circuit, backing up soul stars and blues singers throughout the 70''s and 80''s. His savvy and chops immediately brought the band up to a new level. Gigs started coming in and the group worked extremely well in this lineup. During the demo recording sessions the band was working on in 1998, Bob Jackson left the group to pursue other interests. The recording engineer who was working with us at the time, Bill Gibson, offered his services as a guitarist. Bill came to a rehearsal and was a natural, perfect fit into the band''s chemistry. Bill expanded the focus of the band''s repertoire with the diverse styles of his original songs. With the added benefits of his voice and his musicianship, the group has improved tremendously since his joining.

The Citykings first CD, "Four Lifetimes", was recorded at Sugar Hill Studios in Houston, Texas. Engineered, mixed, and co-produced by Andy Bradley. Mastered at Esential Sound by Allen Corneau.

Thanks to all. Love and Peace.
