Details:
Multi-award winning blues and rock recording artist Chance Gardner steps out in his first solo acoustic album. Heartfelt performance and professionalism is what this emotion-packed CD is all about.

Slack Key guitar is a Hawaiian name for open tunings (ie: slacken the keys or strings). As legend goes, when the Spaniards came to Hawaii the natives (who are very musically talented) mimicked the music they heard but since no one taught them how to tune the guitar like the Spaniards they made up their own tunings which mostly sounds like open chords when you strum it without making a chord (ie: open tunings). Early blues artists used open tunings for loudness and also "bottleneck" slide guitar (from Robert Johnson to Leadbelly to John Lee Hooker). Music from Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills and Nash, and many others also used open tunings in rock. On this CD Chance uses that Hawaiian influence on his own acoustic style and calls it Modern Slack Key. "A Slack in the Key of Integrity" includes all original songs about starting over (More in Love With You), Hank Williams(Luke the Drifter), Slack Key derived from the Spaniards (Elba''s Song), Love is such a trip that I''d rather ride ''till sunrise (Paniolo Lullaby), a song about John Lennon on the day he passed on (Hit me in Da Head or Da Heart) and hope (Anywhere the Wind Blows)...

The Story behind "A Slack in the Key of Integrity" goes something like this: Chance is also an accomplished recording engineer and many times has helped out other artists by financing their recordings and helping them grow as artists and move up the ladder to greater name recognition. Last year one of those artists, after 2 CD releases in three years (and even winning an award for one of them) signs with another record label and abandons the third project which was over a year in the making without even a goodbye. Well the label had to release a record so Chance recorded "A Slack in the Key of Integrity" on 2 subsequent evenings live with only 2 microphones as a statement on how much modern recordings over-use processing effects and vocal processing (which corrects the pitch of a singer and is done on most recordings) but mainly as a spiritual release from his broken heart. Chance says "Back in the old days you either had it or you didn''t. You practiced the song with your group and recorded it in one take. Nowadays you can''t trust records any more. Even Major Artists will record many takes of their vocal and an engineer will cut and paste the best of it into a stellar performance. What happened to talent".
This CD was recorded in a way that you cannot change notes or fix any mistakes and these are the reasons why it is titled "A Slack in the Key of Integrity".

In Hawaii Chance Gardner has received 4 Hawaii Music Awards for Best Album of the Year in both Rock and Blues (Public Voting) categories and received 2 Hoku Hanohano Awards nominations (Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences/member voting).
